Battery question

It's time to replace some 18650s. For the high powered devices such as TM, ALP, Splinter etc. Am I looking for discharge rates of 10a, 25a , etc.

The Molicell P26A/P28A/P30B seem to be the favorites. My TM2 came with a 26A, those are out of stock at 18650 store, and the 30B’s are $10 a pop, but they have the 28A’s in stock on sale for $4. All 3 have 30amp or higher rating.

There is an established thread on FC already:

One quote from thread linked above:

“Tinymight definitely wants 20A discharge and I think firewood and others likely do as well.”

Oh, and don’t forget cheap “RE-Wraps”, typically OVERSTATE the amp rating….

So, the higher the discharge number the better?

Not necessarily “better”, as it depends on the device you are trying to power. Higher discharge rates = less mAh’s, though the latest Molicels have increased their run time.

For high power vapes like the TM and so long as you aren't paying excessively for it, or getting significantly less capacity, yes. The Molicel 30B isn't worth twice the price of a 28A but the 28A is definitely worth a dollar or two extra compared to lesser cells. For a lower power vape like a Rogue or AirMax you don't need such a high end cell but it's just easier to manage your cells if they are all the same kind.

Technically what you want is a cell with a very flat discharge curve, one that can maintain voltage at 30 A as easily as it does at 10 A. This is where the Molicels beat other cells that have the same discharge rating. Some other cells will noticeably fade as they get near cut off, the Molicels don't fade nearly as much. They also heat up less which helps them last. There is a guy who goes by Mooch that does heavy duty testing of new cells. The Molicels have done really well in his tests, some of the flattest output curves to be found.

The P28A battery is ~14$ CA a pop at SoothingVapours, still overpriced but cheaper than getting them shipped from south of the border. Ahh, so is life in the GWN.

Yeah, I got mine from SV. Great service and prices. I am impressed that they can undercut Amazon AND provide a top quality battery to boot!

Edit: Ah ha! Molicel are made in Canada (and Taiwan of course). That probably explains why they are so expensive locally.

That's similar to the price I've paid in local vape shops, around £7 in the UK.
