I feel ya, I've been wishing for a clear scientific version of one of these since I saw them in 2012. I always thought this style would benefit from more streamlined simple internals. I think all of the intricate detailing on the perc clashes with the designs on the outside of mason jars. Plus the part about me not being able to afford headiness.

Clear scientific version of what? A diffusion pump? BxW makes those too. (Edit... oh you meant a sci perc in a mason jar. Gotcha. See below)

Also im going to disagree with you on part of that. I love the juxtaposition of the awesome heady handblown badassness and the simplicity of the mason jar.

Of course thats all very subjective.

See, I go the opposite route. I'd love it if they made the perc with little olde-timey embellishments so it really matched the mason jar. Fruits and sheaves of wheat and shit stamped into clear glass. Even a logo would look cool if they did it in that Ball cursive font.

I wasnt sure so I looked it up. This cleared things up for me. Its also cooler than shit.


So my new question is... other than a vortex how is this different from a "recycler"? Is this considered a type of recycler?

OT: Im sort of into this a lot more than the other types (?) of recyclers/incyclers for whatever reason.

Haha @Caligula we were on same page the other day.. I had just been looking at a Steve Bates x Worm x KGB collab diffusion tube and those mason jar rigs popped up too!! Shit is cool as hell. It is a type of recycler, just not one with a vortex.. I have a perfectly awesome recycler that functions awesome and has great flavor saving powers, but no vortex.. The diffusion pumps are cool bubblers, but I may go in the route of the tube since it's a little more unique.. Plus I Love KGB's donut stuff!

That mason jar pussy diffuser was the first I checked out and actually led me to do further research on them the other day as well!

Man, I'm such a sucker for a lifetime warranty.. Especially from a company that doesn't seem to be going any where any time soon, like MF... I wonder if you can easily remove the glass for cleaning? I would hope so.

EDIT: FWIW, Using the wood part of the WPW for reference, I'm estimating the glass to be ~3.5" tall, from the top of the joint to the bottom of the glass.

This was the review/explanation of the diffusion pump when it first came out, via http://dabbersdaily.wordpress.com/
The diffusion pump functions similar to a recycler with the main difference being the recycling action happens completely inside the custom built stem inside the hollow bubbler base. It uses a glass ball check valve system inside the stem to pull the water back inside the chamber to keep water from splashing up the mouthpiece even when being pulled on as hard as one can. This new innovation brings great flavor in a small overall package

Well in the diffusion pump the stem goes all the way to the bottom of the chamber/water and back up above to release the vapor. The vapor is going through about 6 inches of glass inside the water while it is also being pumped into the bubbles from the bottom check valve. This gives the hit a smoother feel in a smaller chamber than some of the other designs where the down stem is fed into a perc near the top of the water and it rely’s more on the holes/percolation to smooth it out than the water-cooling. In this design the full volume of water is actually being used to cool the smoke with less overall percolation, which helps this piece save a lot more flavor with each hit.

I'd like to see a four-hole or two-tree simple job inside. The heady perc is a bit much, but beauty and the eye of the beholder...

Imagine how easy that jar would be to clean, or replace!

Does anyone know the theory of why there's so much water in that heady piece?

I'm pretty sure at first they designed the mason jar diffusion pumps to look like pickled vegetables, then they went crazy heady with them

The water level has to be high in them but I usually see the clear ones filled to just below the outlet. They cool the vapor with minimal contact with water or diffusion. The water surrounding the down tube cools the vapor without it ever coming in contact with water, then the check valve lets small amounts of water to be pulled up with the vapor. In theory (I have not had the chance to rip one personally) it should provide the maximum amount of cooling with minimal loss of flavor.
