AVS Molecule RDA

I bought one yesterday (one day before they announced the quartz insert unfortunately) and will post a review after trying it.

It looks pretty sweet. I never understood why coiled oil atomizers never sat flush with the base/dish to eliminate waste.

AVS is a well respected vape company that makes high quality, medical grade products. Nice to see them entering the cannabis space.

Generally I haven’t liked coiled concentrate vapes. But this thing looks a cut above the rest. And replacement coils are $1.50 a piece or less.

And their quartz bucket insert looks interesting as well. Claims they can get it up to 600° in 3 seconds. Likely because it is using a beefy stainless steel coil for heat rather than the ceramic donuts that are heating current portable buckets.

The thing came out to $30 shipped as well. Most interesting wax atomizer to come out in some time.

I ordered a pair yesterday also, I had talked to the owner of AVS on Reddit a few weeks ago and expressed my opinion on exposed metal coils and he told me this quartz cup was coming, I'm very excited to try it.

I've been expressing for a while the idea that we have these ultra powerful box mods but not an atty that can even utilize a fraction of that power. Current bucket systems revert to ceramic plates which can't take enough power to heat up directly past the whispy vapor ramp up stage. The owner of AVS and I chatted very briefly on Reddit about this and when he said ~2-3 second full heat up time, I was instantly impressed. That's gonna make this a game changer device if it works as planned. I've personally went to a few wax pen manufacturers with my idea for a metal "plate heater" which would be durable enough to slam with power for fast heat ups, but nobody has taken much interest. This is the closest I've seen yet. I agree the price is very fair, if this is a solid quartz dab for $35 I'll be telling the moon!

Love the form factor too, looks like I can bust out my trusty Evic Basic again!

Nice, looking forward to hearing what you think.

I generally haven't enjoyed coiled atomizers as well, but I plan on testing using the concentrate directly on the coils. I trust AVS's SS316 Stainless Steel from a health perspective. I've also heard good things about the taste off of them from Nicotine vaporists. The other advantage of using the coils directly is accurate temp control. That really isn't possible with the buckets. With cleaner concentrates and temp control, you could probably use this thing as a "load and go" option. Throw a quarter gram in there and puff throughout the day.

I'll also pick up their quartz bucket upgrade and test that. It seems like it will eliminate the worst part about using portable concentrate buckets... the "long" heat up time.

I ordered one too. I also ordered a couple of the quartz dish that comes out next week. I need to get a decent mod to use with this or wonder about something for this and splinter? I know nothing about mods. I have an eleaf pick 75 and it sucks..it shuts off and tc sucks,,t gets overheated super easy..any suggestions on a good cheap mod?

Just ordered it looks really interesting, been using a sai taf but i am hoping this can replace that and hopefully not as much waste as in the buckets.

I think this thing was made for the eVic Basic. The Molecule is a tiny atomizer. The Basic is a tiny Mod. I'm not familiar with the Splinter but if it's a bigger atomizer I've heard good things about the Joyetech Espion.

Here's a slideshow that shows the Molecule on some popular Mods: https://imgur.com/a/D7nV1FT

AVS has said they are developing a 15mm Pen style Mod with Temp Control to pair with the Molecule. That would be awesome.

I've been using mine for about a week with a Vaporesso Armour Pro box mod. I've got the quartz inserts on the way too. The form factor is great, more inconspicuous than my Sai. It produces thick clouds surprisingly quickly and at a lower wattage. Setup was very easy, the only issue I've had so far is I already cracked one of the quartz bowls (it comes with 2). I've seen similar reports over at r/waxpen and people have suggested unscrewing the cap to load your material rather than pulling off the top of the mouthpiece to minimize the possibility.

The mouthpiece sits slightly inside the quartz cup and is a very tight fit, so when you pull it off, you have to make sure you're pulling straight up and out, rather than at any kind of an angle... which is difficult to do. The owner is asking for feedback on this problem as it seems to be a slight design flaw.

Anyway, aside from that, I still like it a lot and it's replaced my Sai... at least for now. Unscrewing the cap really isn't a big issue, it's nearly as easy as pulling off the mouthpiece.

I'll post up some pics of mine when I get home from work.

I tried the Molecule last night and am pretty impressed.

With relatively little power, it vaporized a popcorn kernel sized bit of crumble in seconds. The inhale was so smooth I thought it was a weak, terp-only hit. But I exhaled an enormous, good tasting cloud. I was really impressed with the taste and effect from a 4 second hit.

I've never liked the metal coils on the Sai. Getting temp control to work properly was always a pain in the ass. And every hit produced a copious amount of reclaim. I used this thing pretty extensively last night. It produced very little reclaim if any at all. And it's possible to Q-tip it.

The Temp Control was very easy to get going as well. This is the advantage of having a respected e-cig coil maker producing the vape. The TC works flawlessly. The flat SS316 coils eat up mostly everything in the quartz bowl, with great taste. I know many people are sensitive to metal coils. But I got no "metal" taste at all. In fact, the only non cannabis taste I could detect was that hot quartz banger mouth feel when it started running a little dry.

While it's very well machined, there are some "fiddly" pieces. I've seen reports of the quartz bowl breaking. And it seems that the only thing holding the quartz bowl in place is the coil leads, so you have to be a little delicate when servicing and loading the bowl. I also don't love unscrewing the housing to load it safely. Would've much rather be able to pull it off with an o-ring setup like the Sai. But that's not a huge issue.

They included an extra quartz bowl, o-rings, and 4 extra coils. I think this thing is a tremendous value.

I'll probably pick up another unit to use with the quartz crucible and give that a try. I'll probably like the taste from the crucible more. But I don't know for sure. The instant vapor and true temp control that vaporizing directly on the stainless steel produces will be hard to beat.

Overall. I'm impressed. The Molecule uses safe materials in an affordable device that works really well and will last basically forever.

@florduh For the mouthpiece removal problem, I've been using it with only the bottom o-ring as recommended by a reddit user. The cap is easier to pull off and pop back into place, although I'm still extra careful after having already broken one of my cups.

That's not a bad idea. I used a little coconut oil on the o-rings and it pops off a lot easier. I like having direct access to the quartz bowl though too. Personally, I'd like the whole housing tube to be held in by an o-ring as well.

I like how tiny this thing is. Shorter than a cCell cart, and only about 3 times as wide.

Yeah, I agree... Seems like it'd fix all of those issues if the entire piece slipped over an o-ring or two on the base, rather than screwing in (like the Sai). But I guess this way helps give the quartz bowl a little more stability?

That's probably true. Also with how little space there is with this thing, taking off the housing with o-rings on an angle could crack the quartz. Unscrewing it only does take less than 2 seconds. And with the oiled top o-rings, it pops off pretty easily.

Looking at the owner's posts on reddit, it seems like what he's taking from the feedback is that the next version needs to be 18mm or 22mm. Don't know how I feel about that. I really like the small size.

Ah, that's what I was afraid of. 18mm might be ok but I like the current size a lot too, so I guess I'll just deal with the niggles for now.

The owner had previously stated he was looking into making a 14mm Temp control Pen style battery for the Molecule. I'd rather him go in that direction.

At the end of the day, the Molecule isn't a mass market vape. It requires some technical know how even if you're installing their pre-made coils.

My guess is, they will just make a separate larger version and keep making the smaller one. The original Molecule is awesome for portability, and I don't think a larger version will give you a better hit.

Yeah from what I read the larger version is a new product and won't be replacing the small one.

I ordered mine a week ago and just waiting for the new quartz bowls to arrive for them to ship. Can't wait to try it out!

If you go their website you'll notice a couple of new accessories that are coming soon, the water pipe adapter and the drip tip adjustable airflow mouthpiece with drip tip. Pretty cool description of the new mouthpiece.

The Espion 200 is fantastic, my fav mod with Red Panda.
I've been using those Quartz Cup inserts from china and it kicks ass
in the Sai Taf , can't wait for the Crossing ones to arrive.

I ordered the "Mole" a few weeks back and told owner to hold order
till he gets Quartz buckets. Seems like a good dude and will throw in
some extra bowls in my order, as I have no interest in vaping on exposed
coils after using Sai Quartz buckets.
Hate all the Sai coils except the Ti Skillet & Quartz bucket.
The DTv3 donut is tastier than the Sai 10mm.
Using an all glass taf mouthpiece with straw into Quartz
Cup Insert on Sai or Max Eagle Base, freaking Awesome!

I think they did beat AVS by a few days. Unfortunately for HVT r/waxpen, their biggest supporters, seems to have moved on to the Molecule.

I still think the Sai is a solid option for people who don't want to deal with installing raw coils though. But $13 or so gets you 4 Mole quartz buckets.

I believe the ceramic plate heater is the weak link in other bucket systems in this market, I'm looking forward to the Molecule to be able to slam an atomizer with power for instant heat up just like the eCig guys.

Yeah that's why the Molecule is exciting. The new ceramic plate is an improvement over the donuts of old. But I can't see them outperforming the raw power of flattened stainless steel coils.

On the exposed coil front, I still haven't done an ISO wash on my Mole coils. Just doing a little q-tipping here and there. Still getting tasty, potent hits. Very little reclaim.
