Auber Instruments RDK200 e-nail

Here's what I originally wrote, with some omissions due to Auber reaching back out to me to correct the customer service breakdown.

I don't have experience with other units, but have been researching them extensively. That said, I'm an enail noob and the RDK-200 was my first one.

Regarding the bottom-line of "does the unit achieve its goal out-of-the-box":
Yes. You can do dabs with it. It reaches temp in an acceptable enough time frame. It seems with the flat coil getting above 825-850 might not be too easily done without demanding the unit overshoot substantially in my case. That may or may not matter AT ALL as I really don't see much of anyone trying to dab at that temp in favor of low-temp dabbing, but I specifically didn't get a 710whip (capped at 600F) so that I could reach some upper temp levels and experiment uncapped as my cap sucks. And, in my experience, there was substantial temp drop when using the carb cap. YMMV. I would have tolerated all of that if they had treated me sensibly.

Regarding the 850 temp drop thing, I really should undo my temp coefficient so that we can compare temps correctly. Again, not trying to say the unit is a POS because of this, just stating my units behavior and confirming with others whether or not it is to be expected or indicative of some type of unit or coil failure. If anyone finds any value in my doing so, let me know and I'll try to get the unadjusted temp for you all. Just for clarity sake.

Edit: I haven't undone the coeeficient, but mine was set to 1.22. So, I may very well have been slamming into a substantially higher upper limit than 850. I wouldn't be concerned about top temp.

Testing mine at 850 degrees now. Was at 710 and I just set dial for 850. Up to temp in about 1.5 minutes, with no noted issues. I see no signs of any "struggling" to reach 800 or 850. I am using all default settings for the RDK200. Since i have reached 850 and typing this, the temp hasn't went up or down, just sitting at 850. Ah, after about 2 min, it hit 851 then within 15 sec, back to 850. Did about .2 dab, no cap, dropped to 846, before rising back to 850 within a few seconds.

One note, when I first turn on my Auber, it shoots up to a certain point really quick then as it nears the set temp, goes quite a bit slower till hitting that temp. I'd liken it to "pre-pay" at the gas pumps(at least where I live). I pay for $20 of gas and when pumping the first $19.xx goes like warp speed fast, then it hits that point and you can almost feel the pump restrict the flow of gas and now the last couple of cents takes longer than what it took to pump the first $19.xx worth. Thats how my box heats up anyway. Hopefully that makes some bit of sense.

After painfully slow typing the 2 above paragraphs for longer than I care to admit to, my RDK200 has hovered at 850 with ZERO signs of dropping or having an issue maintaining temp. I am not sold on ANY enail 100% yet(high priced ones or mid-range like Auber) for my needs, but I can't find fault with how this box and coil operate at all at this time. All the extra clutter(wires, nails, water pipe, box controller as compared to my prior torch and nectar collector) is my real gripe as i mentioned originally.

I would recommend keeping all settings at the original default though. I changed them originally and it worked ok, but then started getting werid rise in temps. Changed back to default, powered unit off, and it's run great ever since. :2c:

What mixed reviews? One person who had an issue with bad customer service.

@EpicNameGuy -- sorry to hear about your negative experience

For anyone else, I would recommend just returning and rebuying(if you are chosing to keep the Auber) instead of trying to haggle a refund. I don't think it's being deceptive as a consumer, but sometime you have to play their game to get the results we as paying customers deserve. kinda like that Seinfeld episode...
What coil are you using?

No big deal in the grand scheme of things. Just figured I would share my experience given the nature of the forum sharing info and what not.

Lol, funny clip. Haha, I wasn't really trying to bust them up over the 40 bucks, it just became such a poor interaction overall that I wasn't interested in them having my money anymore. However, someone did reach out to me afterwards offering a solution so I'm just waiting to hear back on more. It could work out in the end and that's all that counts.

@EpicNameGuy

Thanks for sharing your experiences with Auber's customer "service". Stuff like that needs to get out to the public. Why even provide a phone number if that is how you will handle calls?

Shame really, since they seem to make a solid unit, but I like solid people and support behind the goods I buy. Maybe the 710 hotbox might be a good choice for someone like myself who is very interested in the Auber RDK-200, but really does not want to give $ directly to a company like that.

Anyone have any experience with 710 hotbox customer service?

I reached out via email to check for a heartbeat before I ordered. I got a reply within the hour, placed my order and haven't needed to contact them for support since. I did sent them and FYI link to this thread though.

I don't like the Ti carb cap resting on the coil. Looking forward to trying the domeless ceramic nail when it arrives

EpicNameGuy - I cast a vote that we use the uncorrected temps for conversation so we can compare apples to apples. Great idea.

Mine is running fine at 1.22 correction.

I have found it struggle a little to get up to temp.

I found going to 800 first and then 900 would get me to 900 quicker than setting the dial to 900 in one go. It seems to prefer smaller temp changes at the high end.

With that said, it has not problems maintaining temps that high for me.

Why would you want temps this high though?

I don't, hence why I said earlier in the thread that I use it at 710.

However mine is true 710 as I have measured the nail temp with a thermociuple and adjusted the correction to 1.22.

I was merely pointing out that the unit WILL reach those high temps if the user should wish, but it has to be coaxed up a bit at a time when temps are that high, in my experience anyway...

With all due respect to @EpicNameGuy's bad experience, let's not destroy a company's rep based on 1 person's experience.

:peace:

Fair enough, not my intention to do so anyway. They can handle that themselves, I think. Nothing against their product, seems solid.

@jds32 Thanks for sharing that. Seems the 710 hot box has my eye now, especially since the complete kit seems cheaper from them than it does directly from Auber. :hmm:

Hey @aesthyrian -- I didn't mean you my friend, I just meant the overall thread-nobody specific at all. I probably should have not even posted that sentence as I am by no means qualified to say what should/shouldn't be posted.

I swear I saw that using ceramic with a torch may cause it to crack over time. When using ceramic e-nail I haven't read about anyones cracking yet.

@grdwaste--should of asked about a deal with a ceramic heater coil too, I swear he offered me a little over your price mentioned, for carb cap, enail and a coil to work with my Auber.

@grdwaste I'd quickly shoot off an email to domeless.com. He replied back to me same day. Tell him you saw on his Instagram about the ceramic coil, i'm sure he'll offer you what I was offered. If not ask him about a package deal for the cap, nail and coil.

I have no idea if he will or not. I have not purchased anything from there yet. But I can tell you from his Instagram responses and email communication directly, that Darid seems like a genuinely cool cat. I don't think he will disappoint with how he treats/talks to his future/current customers.

I would be asking him myself.

Include many :) in your email. (Don't ask, he'll probably explain it).

Talked to him on his cell! What a great guy! Setting me up as a tester when he gets it finished for a good price. I bought the universal ENAIL domeless with the new dab cap., the dab cap setup looks awesome.

Glad it worked out. He sure is, I told him to get an account cleared with the mods and join us.
I'm a bit tight on funds at the moment, but domeless.com is next on my "Give money to:" list.

Be sure to let the thread know how your new gear works!

Apparently domeless.com makes better ceramic then most accord to people on here so the deal was for the universal domeless ceramic nail, plus his new designed dab cap( which looks pretty awesome), and the upcoming ceramic coil he's making that is able to be plugged into the auber
