Atomizer Cleaning Questions?

Hello FC friends, I have a Dr. Dabber Ghost vaporizer and was wondering how often I should clean it generally? I mean does it matter that wax builds up in there or is it just prefererence or taste? I was planning on just dropping it in isopropyl alcohol for 2 hr. Also is it favorable to load up my bowl fully? Or is more effective to load small dabz and retain a clean bowl? Thanks for any responses!

Wow, tough questions. The answers depend a lot on what you feed it. Some concentrates seem to need cleaning several times a gram, others go many grams without trouble.

I think the best scheme, subject to personal modification of course, is to load on the light side since flooding it out makes a mess and leads to loss of material.

It's OK to let condensate build up some, I like to move it back down onto the heater with a toothpick if it builds up too deep otherwise if you run it hard a lot will melt down and flood the heater.

Dunking a fouled cart into ISO doesn't do much in my experience. No flow. Even pumping it in and out with a syringe and a bit of rubber tube leaves gooey junk in strange places. Instead I suggest washing it out with a proper detergent, specifically PBW:

I only tend to melt in what I can vaporize in 2 hits max. The taste seems to go south faster with this style of atomizers and the last hit or the last part of the last hit in the load tends to taste the worst to me. While there's not really anything "wrong" with overloading it all just melts out and down like @OF said, then you have to tip the atty over at an angle so that the heat from the coil makes it runny enough to rewick...

From the faq sheet on the Dr. Dabber thread:

We recommend immersing your atomizer in isopropyl alcohol for 20-30 minutes to clean the chamber. Avoid leaving it any longer than this, as it will damage the matte finish on the outside of the atomizer. Once you remove the atomizer from the alcohol, shake excess alcohol off, then reattach to your battery and press the button to vaporize any remaning alcohol. Do NOT use the loading tool to clean or scrape the inside of your atomizer, as it is very easy to catch the wick/coil and tear it out of its connectors. This will render the atomizer useless immediately. For your globe attachment, we recommend Formula 420

Instead I suggest washing it out with a proper detergent, specifically PBW:
My concern would be that the PBW would damage the finish of the atty.

Worth watching for sure, so far it hasn't effected any of mine.

It would seem this might be an issue, just today someone posted it attacked the finish on their grinder, worth watching out for (if it's important to you.....), but IMO PBW does such a better job at this you should check it out.
