I know some mma guys they take mj 2 days before a important fight to realx and focus.
I did also a lot of martial arts stoned, but no big or important fights just in the training.
I also know a worldclass kendo fighter who was afraid to win cause of thc in the doping test.since thc is in the doping list, pro athlet who wants o win cant take mj...in mma there is no doping test and thats also not good cause of massive amphvitamine and steroid abuse.....

I dont do MMA but Ive been training BJJ for 25 years. In my early days I never liked training after vaping. Even now, because I teach usually before I train I need a clear head. But when we do our competition training, so hard stand up to ground training (and I dont teach beforehand), I hit my vape. I have to tell you Im more relaxed and I see things so much clearer. also Im more creative and have more fun. I wish i could do it before every training session.

Though I'm in my early 70's, I'm still an aggressive biker, hiker, snowshoer, etc. in the mountains that I retired to seven years ago. I usually don't get stoned during the day--unless its at the beginning of a one to two hour exercise session. Been vaping exclusively for over four years now.

But my lungs/airways started bothering me, with some wheezing, coughing, etc. At first the vigorous exercise would usually take care of any lung issues, typically within ten minutes of vaping. But after a while I was starting to get concerned about my lungs. So I recently took a thirty day break from vaping. Edibles fulfilled my needs on those evening when I really wanted to get high, but its so much more difficult to control the stone when its from edibles. Its the first time in years that I didn't get high before before a bike up one of the notches or a quick hill climb on foot. I really missed getting stoned before hand.

Well after that 30 day vaping break, my lungs feel so much better. And I've started to have a couple of draws before setting off up-hill on the bike or now with snowshoes. After a week of vaping again, I still feel fine, without coughing or wheezing. I love getting high before my outdoor workouts again!

I've long been a bike rider, abeit never the type (any longer) who is into it more for the fitness than for the fun. Strictly mtb riding the past 4 or 5 yrs. Since I'm not hard core, I have lulls in my activity at times when getting on the bike isn't easy, like in the Winter. Last couple of Winters I did some exercising at a planet fitness. Just enough to keep my core, my legs and my lungs moving enough to be able to hop back on the bike once the weather turned.

I hadn't had breathing issues (asthma-like, wheeziness and air flow constriction) since way back when I was an unhealthy adolescent. But a few months ago I started having wheezing issues and riding didn't get rid of it. I went to the doc and was prescribed antibiotics for a sinus infection. No real help. Got a second script for more ab's. Little to no help. Then a cold compounded things after Thanksgiving. Got a third round ob ab's and I'm just starting to come around to feeling ok.

Went to the gym this morning to hopefully get some blood and some oxygen flowing and after the 20 minute light aerobic portion of my work out I was all wheezy. Came home and read something online about exercise induced asthma and I'll be making an appt. to see a specialist I guess. I've taken for granted all these years the ability to maintain a moderate level of fitness via mountaing bike riding (never without a hit of cannabis before hand - I don't ride anymore if I don't partake) and some skiing and light gym work in the cold weather. I don't know what I've done to myself but I'm bummed. Perhaps time for a 30 day break like @Polarbearboy . I'm not sure I can do that. I'm in a mmj state but don't have a card so no edibles for me to help me through.

@GetLeft - I was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma after I finally gave up cigarettes and took up running. The doctor told me my cleaner lungs were more sensitive to allergens now and that they would adapt but until they did:
- Prescribed a low end rescue inhaler that I was to use before exercising. I vape before most exercise so sometimes I'd vape and then use the inhaler or I'd use the inhaler and then vape. If I could feel the sensitivity I'd use the inhaler and then vape. If I didn't feel the sensitivity I'd vape and then use the inhaler.
- Told me to never use the inhaler immediately after exercising if it was cold out. Lungs were too wide open after the run in the cold and hitting that inhaler immediately after the run caused my airway to close up for a few seconds. Scared the shit out of me. He also said to avoid running in extreme cold until my lungs adapted.
- Told me to take a half a Benadryl a half hour before running when it was allergy season.

The doctor was right ... my lungs eventually caught up to the new sensitivity. I probably use that inhaler twice a year now at most and I can't remember the last time I felt like taking a half Benadryl before cardio even in the cold.

Maybe try the half Benadryl and see if that helps? If the Benadryl doesn't work you might be able to eliminate the allergy side before seeing the doc.

Good Luck!

Thanks @His_Highness ! The allergy part will be tricky since literally nothing has changed since before I had this issue and now. My living space is basically identical, as is my diet. I haven't moved, so the air quality should be unchanged as well. But it has to be something. Maybe an aging immune system that's no longer able to do it's job without a little help. I'm definitely going back on immune support supplements, which I've been fortunate enough not to need a whole lot of. I'll give the benadryl a try today too. And I'll give things a couple more tries at the gym before I go full bore panic. It could simply be a super long lasting virus that's provoking the allergic reactions.

Well, visited the pulmonolgist, who declares unabashedly that I have asthma. Three meds to take daily and a baseline lung test in 6 weeks. They communicated lots of confidence that if I do what they say (= take their drugs), I'll be able to stay active. I'll follow their suggestions and hopefully get this thing managed before looking into how to manage it without drugs. Shared for the first time ever with a medical professional that I vaporized cannabis. It went in one ear and out the other. The way they seem to see it is it's one thing or another that's causing the inflammation, just take the drugs.

Asthma is such a strange beast. Up until age 11 cats & dogs inside = instant attack for me. Then it stopped for 20 years. Now attacks happen normally after a bronchial infection. I only use an inhaler when under attack.

Something to consider, in regard to allergies, is the season. The winter, while harsh on the lungs, is also a time when most allergens are not as abundant. For the spring and summer especially, it helps to wash your face and change your shirt, at a minimum (a shower and full change is ideal), after being outside, and especially before getting in bed.

Something that is commonly overlooked, when talking about allergies, is the fact that even mild allergic responses, which don't necessarily make you feel like you should take an allergy pill, still cause inflammation in your body, which leads to all sorts of issues, including the worsening of one's mental health. Some therapists notice a spike in their clients' struggles, when allergy season kicks up, as the extra stress on the body can exacerbate other issues.

Continued form FC: Athlete Vaporists?

It's been a cool Spring in the North East US but it's turned the corner. I'm back on my mtb and loving it. Never without a mini session before hand and always feeling great afterward.
Had breathing concerns late last Fall but they have disappeared so I'm looking forward to getting some level of fitness back. Not a lot - that hurts too much. But some!

The only exercise I've been getting lately is the jog from whatever room I'm in to the fridge. I'm not getting around....I'm just getting rounder.:D

I ran the yearly 15k race March 10th (Have been doing that race for decades) and continued with the running and strength training till the end of March when I saw a video depicting the aerosol spray of a runner passing people. That video convinced me I needed to stop running outside which was my meditation and mood enhancer. I have a high end dreadmill in the house but I hate it. Anywhoo....my get up and go got up and left when the runner's high ceased.

Up until that race that was run by thousands.... the virus message was a little, let say.... muddied or I would not have run that 15k. Don't get me wrong...I would have trained for that race and would have run the 15k....I just would have run it on my own.

I do stay more active than implied above playing with the grand-kids and the honey do's around the house but I gotta get my mind right and chase down that runner's high again.

@ataxian, how's da weekend?
Just finished tuning my Roady earlier, went out for a 20 mile spin since its been absolutely gorgeous here, why not right? My body is cooked though, I haven't riden most of the summer due to work and the crazy heat waves we've had. Swimming Pool at my gym is open but da rules they are placing on us is ridiculous, won't be going there now.
Time to hit a bowl and ice my knee.

The skateparks here @ the med coast have been wonderful during the hot summer nights. No crowded at all.
While running I'd beat the max record of 'boars in a single run' with 15 of them ruling the steepest suburbs. I need to hack the strava dashboard to mark me the cool wildlife records...
Best thing is since 'new normality' new period I've crossed 5 bikers, 4 runners, 68 boars, 13 rabbits and 1 toad. This is 9 athletes vs 82 wildlife in 298kms.
Have fun!
