At my wits end with trying to view Imgur images

Firefox, Chrome they both do it. All the images, still or GIF, from Imgur will not load. They appear broken but when I view them individually they then start to work. What the hell is going on? It just started yesterday. I have tried everything to trouble shoot this with no results. Any ideas?

Yeah, I'm having this problem on mobile Chrome (haven't checked desktop yet). Seems like all the imgur embeds are borked.

Nope. Its broken. If I hit "view Image" it says it contains errors. If I hit "Copy Image Location" and open it in another window I can see it. Sometimes when the page first loads the image will flash briefly then go "broken".

The previous was using the "BBC CODE" one, which is usually suggested here, rather than the actual link in the image button widget thing at the top of the text reply box ^ which I've posted here.

Ohhh jeebus, now the images are working and not working randomly on and off. This sucks.

I noticed today that all imgur images are not showing up on the posts today. I can access the images via the URL directly, but it seems they are not getting embedded in the posts.......

I get a feeling this isn't limited to just my system, did anyone else notice this?

Yes. there is another thread about it already this morning. images come and go. Most can only be seen when I quote a post.

But I go to the actual imgur site pretty often and it works fine.

I think I know what's going on.....

Some of you may recall that Imgur recently added video hosting to their service (within the past 2 weeks). I'm betting the video hosting is causing a major load on their servers, to the point where Imgur is running over capacity.

Embedding images may have been disabled by Imgur in an effort to 'throttle' the load on their system (to keep the whole system from crashing)

This is purely conjecture, as I have not seen any formal statements from Imgur. I'm simply going off my experience in the IT industry (data storage specifically), and the fact that they recently added a high-bandwidth service to their system

I posted an image, then couldn't see it in the post but I could see it in the edit window for that post.
Then I went to the gif thread, and the last page was full of broken image links like this one.
But the second to last page, which is obviously full of gifs, loaded.
And then the last page still doesn't load at all.
I'm also glad it's not just me!

The puzzling thing to me is that (as others have mentioned) the images load when you quote them, or edit them for that matter. It's more complicated than just disabling embedding.

Agreed, that is strange. I too have seen some of my own images show up when compiling a message, or reviewing a PM. I think those images may be cached on the browser

Edit, indeed it appears to be a cache copy of the image. I was unable to see @Enchantre's image on this thread, until I right clicked and selected "open image in new tab" - the new tab was blank, until I refreshed the screen. Then suddenly the image appeared. Flipped over to this tab and refreshed the page. Now the image shows up as it should
