i'm in arizona. we used to have a farmer's market for weed but i think it's closed down now. the law says that only state approved dispensaries can sell (with a few exceptions for growing and caregivers that live outside the 25 mile zone).
i've been to 2 dispensaries so far with many more to try. one place you go in and they let you smell the weed and if you are real picky you can pick out the buds you want, the other place has it already packaged. i prefer being able to give it a good look.
the last time i went, i told the budlady that i still couldn't believe that i could just walk into a store and buy it. it's such an odd thing to do after 45 years of hiding it.
we have a couple state OKed dispensaries that deliver but there are delivery companies that are not state approved that for some reason are not shut down yet. unless i'm confused, it's not illegal for me to buy from them but it's illegal for them to sell it. i don't have a problem trying them, but if they get here and it's garbage, i don't need the hassel.
i go online and check a few of the closest dispensaries every few days to see what they have and the prices for their top shelf buds are all within $5.00 of each other. it's so cool to know i can see it online and buy it 15 minutes later.
the stores i've been to sell pipes, vapes, dab units, shatter, wax, edibles etc. one stop shopping.
$300 plus tax on an ounce is pretty standard for their top grade weed. some go into the $350 range. they have cheaper ounces but the quality is much less. when you buy smaller units like a 1/4 or 1/2, the price is a lot more. a few sell an oz for $300 and a 1/2 oz of the same stuff for $190! what bullshit. i get a 5% discount for being old and a 5% discount for being a veteran so not too bad a deal.
i prefer a large selection of genetics so i'm paying more to buy an 1/8th of this and a 1/4 oz of that. if i like it, i got back and buy a larger quantity. we are allowed to buy 2.5 oz every 2 weeks. i go through about one oz a month so it's more than enough to meet my needs. every morning i'm like hmmm, what do i want to vape today...
both dispensaries gave free pre-rolls to new customers. both pre-rolls were made of shake garbage and i threw them away after vaping a bag of each. bleh!
i was concerned but i like the quality of some of the top shelf weed i've bought. i've yet to find something as good as my best but they are close enough that i don't feel a need to grow anymore. it's nice to have a repair man in without wondering if he smells the flowering plants 10 feet away.
i've bought about 15 different genetics so far and they all smell, taste and look good. a bit too dry but i rehydrate the buds a bit. i keep mine at 60ish % humidity. as an ex grower, i'd like to complement the chefs!
the budtenders are all very friendly, frankly a bit too friendly. lots of competition.
one thing i don't like, other than the price of course, is that their menus are not always up to date. when i look at your menu just before you open and see what i like, i don't like being told as soon as you open that you ran out the day before. it's lazy to not update their menus as soon as they close. i think they believe that once you get there, they just have to steer you to a different genetic. i think they are mostly right because instead of leaving like i should have, i bought something else. it was good but it wasn't what i wanted.
we vote to legalize in 2016. i don't think it will pass the first time but i'm hoping and praying. oddly enough, there are no signature takers for the legalization vote outside or inside of dispensaries.
