Are vaporizers the new handbags?

I got into vaping about two months ago with a simple black original iolite ($200) purchased at my local headshop. The other day I bought what appears to be a no-name digital box vape ($90) from the same place. Now I'm drooling over vapes like the Vapir NO2 and the iolite WISPR. Are vaporizersn now stoner status symbols? I just joined and chose the handle handbagho because I feel like I'm going to start collecting them as some do with expensive designer handbags. I think vapers must truly be a community apart because I have experienced the judgemental side-eye when I offer up a vape rather than a blunt. My more open-minded friends love it though! This gives me some hope that there is some kind of vaping movement and seriously, what better addy than fuckcombustion.com?

Gotta love the url :D

I agree with a lot of what you said, and I think many do as well. As far as the status symbol, I don't think that is the case so much though. From my understanding, those who vape, do so because of one or more of the many benefits of vaporizing. Smoke is crap, as the url states cleverly...Vapor is; healthy, efficient, tasty (combustion has never tasted the same for me), and fun! There are probably many other benefits that aren't coming to me right now, but you get the idea...

This seems to be something that (most) every vaporist has gone through, and probably still goes through! Before my first vape came in the mail, I was already researching, and price shopping for others...And, it hasn't stopped since then! You definitely found the place to cure that itch though...anything vape related, can usually be found here. (check out the classifieds...great deals to be had)

Edit* To answer your question ( the subject of the thread ) No, I don't thin vapes = the new handbag....but I would say vapes are the new; bong, pipe, joint, blunt, etc... ;)

Anyhow, Welcome to FC, happy vaping! :peace:

Purpl3_Haz3,
Thanks man! I agree with what you said; people find vaping through whatever means (weed conservation, going smokeless for health), etc and then it becomes a passion they explore through these great devices. So even if they're buying a Volcano, which seems to be recognized as a top-shelf vape, people don't really seem to be in it to brag about the brand or the $ it costs as one might with a Vuitton or Prada bag.

Just as I used to fetishize this men's silver calfskin Dior messenger as a teen, I'm now looking longingly at the WISPR and attracted to what seems like a design and features targeted at those a bit above entry level. The aesthetic is so up my alley and the butane level check will be a godsend!

Maybe the vaporizer is the just a fucking amazing yet functional objet d'art ?

It's fun to try out different vaporizers and see what works best for you. Each one is a 'new toy' I suppose, so there is a sort of hobbyist element about it. After a while you find a device or type of device (or two) you like and mostly stick with that (or those).

Good point gunky!

Handbag, if I were you, I'd take a look at the ioloite, as well as the whispr thread in the Vaporizer discussion section...at least skim through them, as well as the Magic flight launch box thread, before you make any purchases ;)

And some vapes, as well as most glass, I would consider to be art...I always liked the look of the custom SSV's!

Purpl3_Haz3,
So it's a n00b question but I'm taking the initials/names in some people's signatures here are the vape models they have, not credentials? ;)

I love the hobbyist aspect of marijuana in general and I've totally started geeking out on vaporization. I'm glad I started off w the original iolite, I think it's a real solid vape but I'm thinking of progressing to either a different portable or a really dope home unit. Winter's coming so I'm looking forward to not having to go outside/to my car to smoke.

I was convinced this was another replica-handbag-spamming-thread

If you're in to portables you have to have a look at least at the Arizer Solo as well.

To be honest I don't really get why people still buy Wispr's and Iolites since the Solo came out, unless they absolutely have no access to a power source to charge it with.

welcome to FC! I think you will find that this board is pretty awesome :) i love the open minded talks we can have on here. most seem to be all about science and fact, asking for sources when a statement is questionable.

Maybe we will start seeing vaporizers with names like gucci and prada on them, then they will really become status symbols among all the yuppies and chic hipsters that care about labels

Don't care about fashion brands.:/
If you like glass, like vape bonging or a pure glass airpath, check out the herborizer too! It's a little piece of art, delivers great vapor with huge taste and kicks quite well xD You can use it with his specific glass like tube or sphere, otherwise it can be put on every 14 or 18 Glass on glass joint.

For some reason, this thread made me appreciate how cheap vaporizers are. Think about it...the ability to get lifted practically anywhere for ~$115 dollars. I love science and shit.

Don't we all love science and shit? lol

Yeah, or even using something like the vaporgenie bat would be an inexpensive alternative to combustion, that is fairly public-friendly...

$35 for my VG coil and it hits as hard as any of my expensive vapes. I love science & shit, too!

I paid even less for my metal and glass Vapo Bowl together, yet I seem to prefer them over the other 200$+ vapes I tried. Crazy..

My guess would be the combination of vapor, the control of the temp/vapor, and the habitual factor of smoking (even though your technically vaping)...I always like VG glass pipes :) :peace:

All true. The high temps, thick vapor, playing with a big torch (fire!), the pretty glass, the convenience of use, they all ad up to a very fulfilling experience.

The funny thing is that I never really enjoyed smoking through a bong all that much. I tried a few in the first years when I was discovering mj, it was fun but they never became a habit. Joints were (and still are to some extend) my weakness. The first time I paid more then 15 bucks for a piece of glass was only after I started vaping and to hook up to my SSV. I don't really miss that vape anymore, but I'd never want to be without my Ehle :)

The price comparison I made in my last posts wasn't to accurate btw. If you factor in the money for a decent bong, a diffused downstem, the several torches I bought since, and the desire it gave me to buy other lighter based vapes & nicer glass pieces I see out there, it really isn't cheaper at all, lol
