Did anyone see the recent video of (what appears to be) an e-cig battery catching fire in a guy's pants pocket? It's a little scary for all of us vape users. Especially those using vapes with "custom" batteries.

Has anyone here had a vape with a battery that caught fire?

There's a battery safety thread pinned in the vape related equipment forum. I recommend you check that thread out. The short answer is: yes, when handled properly, no when handled improperly.
The long answer is in that thread and on e-cigarette specific forums like /r/ecr

I've visited a number of websites over the past several days to educate myself on safe use of lithium batts that we use in our various devices and having gained a bit of knowledge it has provided me with a certain amount of reassurance on the safety issue.

Here is one site that you might start with but I would suggest googling for several sites so as to gain as many reputable perspectives as possible. http://batteryuniversity.com/
