Are desktop vapes in decline?

the batteries for my vape generate 72 watts (12 amps at 6 volts) using two 26650s - total size of two cells is 2 5/8" x 2 1/8" x 1 1/16" ... so, the right size for an R/C car.

however, it takes more than massive heater power to supply a fast and dense toke ... the heat has to be transferred to the herb to vaporize the trichomes, so it gets into turbulent airflow vs laminar airflow, the design of the bowl, etc.

Ya, my mighty is 36 watts. It hits as hard as any of my desktops. I think we are very very close to having it all, including performance, size, and whatnot. Plus these improvements are happening relatively fast.

but the it doesn't have a glass on glass air path or and excessively uses plastic. maybe minor points but stil make a difference.

Perhaps Desktop vapes are in decline, but they will always have their place. I like my portables, and only own one desktop, but I really enjoy the whip experience with my Herbalizer and enjoy a bag from time to time.

My other vapes can medicate me just as well, and many of them create denser vapor (I still can't whitewall my bubbler with Herbie, though other users don't seem to have that challenge). However, it is just an experience of its own...

I don't think it's a matter of desktops going away, more like portables are getting better, and as they get better, they get popular.

BTW the mighty does great with glass and @Ratchett 's water adaptor. Huge clouds. And I don't know that I would, but you can put a whip on the mighty as well.

Look at it like this:

Most people haven't been in front of a desktop computer for a long time, since it's all about smartphones, laptops, tablets and what have you these days - but there are still some people who need and/or prefer desktop computers, even in an age where any of the portable devices available are most handy for most people.

I would think as more people are introduced to vaping every year that there would actually be more sales in both portable and plug-in vaporizers.
I know people convince themselves that their battery powered portables serve them as well as a desktop would but seems usually they just haven't used a decent plug-in yet to compare it to.

I don't see portables ever replacing a good desktop myself.

I agree I think the popularity of vaporizing brings more folks into the fold. It's not either or, most of us use both. Is kinda like having a car and a pickup. Sometimes you need to pack a heavy load.

I think that most people who are brand new to vaporizing, especially the young ones, would want a portable just because they have no idea how much more powerful a desktop is than most all portables on the market. Hell, most of them seem to equate portable vaporizers with pen vapes, having no idea that there is such a thing as portable vaporizers that are not shaped like a pen.

The desktop vaporizers today lack the capacity to do both oils and wax sufficiently. The current ones that are probably going to stand out for a while is Sublimator and Errlectric. The Herbalizer is supposedly going downhill unless we could see a future revision it is unlikely for the pricing on the Herbie to stay stable. New management hopes to profit off it by discounting it recently. I'd look more into Errlectric just because there is the quarts bowl for oils and glass bowl for herb. This makes it all the more worth it if you have glass already. As for the Sublimator, it's definitely great as a AIO kit but personally I would buy the whole setup for that price and enjoy it's intended function and purpose designed for it.

It's funny how different we all are. I for one wouldn't think the ability to do concentrates is important to most of us. It's still not that much of a thing where I live and when it is I still see flower being king.

Wax is fun sometimes but I wouldn't want to use it daily myself.

How many portable vapes actually have the capacity to do flowers and oil and actually do both of them very well or even better than a typical desktop? Even vapes like the mighty are still using a liquid pad which you could pretty much use in most desktop vapes that I have used to have the same effect.

I hear that ajadbe but,
No dispensaries for the other 99% of us here on FC, you guys that can go the legal route are still a very small minority of users worldwide. Hopefully not for long but It's the reality we live in for now.

Didn't realize the percent of members with medical access was that low. Sigh. :disgust: But my point was that a significant number of folks must care about using concentrates or dispensaries, where they exist, wouldn't offer so many.

Edit: Many members have posted about doing dabs, shatters, waxes, etc., whether legal or not.

Most people are probably used to portability with smoking, the ability to carry a pipe or a joint and use it nearly anywhere (campfire, in the car, at a party) is what many associate with marijuana. my opin

I have always thought of da Buddha and whip vapes of being like hookahs or chalices.. They give a different experience compared to something that emulates pipe smoking like the Lotus or VaporGenie for example. The vape that's most like a joint in my opinion? The Solo. You have 12 minutes to roast your herbs and draw through the tube at your own leisure. It's easy to pass around, now if it could just be more portable!

Can't most desktops handle wax that's wrapped in herb? I have access to wax and oils but find that high grade flowers will get you just as medicated. I thought of buying one of those pads that come with the Herbie, if it's too big I can cut it down to fit.

Its true we all are so different because I've read on FC where some folks have gone strictly to using wax style pen vaporizer.

I actually pulled the 99% figure outa thin air(or my arse) but since most states in the US that have passed some kind of mmj program still don't have working systems and since FC is a WorldWide forum I wouldn't think it's that far off.

I'd say the vast majority of people here still have to deal with the black market and legality is still just something we dream about.

I know you like to wrap herb around wax!
Cotton works as well.
I like my wax tools the most.
Desktop vaporizers I love and will not smoke pot socially.

No doubt you're correct. As a marijuana user for nearly 50 years, am familiar with black market deals and dreamed since the '60s of getting/using legally. Now, am not ashamed to be enjoying it and want everyone to have that opportunity.

I merely replied to your comment that "you wouldn't think the ability to do concentrates is important to most of us" by citing situations that make it seem important to some. :)

The quality of the extraction is important to me.

Portables can only make a tiny stream of hot air. My desktop vape makes a spot on the screen the about size of a US nickel in one breath. You are fooling yourself if you think that something on batteries can do the same extraction as a vape that does not need to be efficient. You know in the movies how the villains always want unlimited power? Desktop vapes have unlimited power!

Say you are brewing tea in two pots. Ground tea is put in a strainer above each pot. For one pot, boiling water is put into a bowl and the quickly poured over the strainer in 2-3 dumps. For the other pot, boiling water is poured into a small funnel in 12+ dumps. This is kinda how I see the differences in thermal mass between a desktop and a portable.

IMO portables are cloud makers, not get the most out of your weed extractors.

The reality is that we live in a just good enough world. It's kinda like mp3's. The format is shitty for sound quality, but makes portable devices easier. So now that majority of us use portable players, studios mix their audio for the lower quality format. The market catered to profit and not quality.

Like I said the mighty is pretty darn close. If it was also a convection vape it would be a five star. This vape has power, just check out the u tube videos if your curious. It uses the entire load without having to stir during a session, stirring is not needed at all. The abv is very uniformly impressive.

Wow, really? Than why are there some portables that do not make clouds and yet are pretty damn efficient extractors as well as some portable that can make huge clouds and are also great extractors.

This is the reason why general statements like you made above just don't hold any water since in most cases, there are exceptions to just about every rule.
