Anyone else addicted to facebook.

Unless I'm with friends, on my own all I do is snake facebook get depressed about how dumb people are and then vape. Rinse and repeat, the plight of "our" generation. How do you guys feel social networking, or maybe the internet has influenced generation X as a whole?

Any one have any good documentaries on this?

My 10 year high school reunion was a few weeks ago. I had no desire to go. I'm already friends with all of them on FB and ive seen pictures of all their kids and know what they are up to. Through the facebook reunion page I saw the pictures so I know I didn't miss out on hanging out with the 10 people that went lol

JDSupreme,
Hahaha I have always thought of facebook's influence on my own high school's reunion. Too funny that only a couple of people even attended!

Never been, never gonna go. Paranoia is a healthy mental attitude. ;)

The F-book concept just seems strange to me. Like going to Hyde Park and standing on a box. :2c:

I've figured out I'm more addicted to my soap-box than with what facebook was designed to be used for, so i've stopped posting everyday, but still feel it's an important source of a sense of connection to others (for me)

^Thank you for that point. If I want real connection I will meet face to face instead of status posting and comment making. Utter bullshit.

@PD Great analogy, begging for likes and comments on your facebook page :p.

I actually just got Facebook a few months ago. I'm not addicted, though.

I'd love to get rid of Facebook, but it's the only real medium I have to share news and current events with friends and family. I don't update my wall with stupid crap i've done/about to do during the day. I stick to posting relevant and insightful stuff that will leave people thinking.

Facebook, when asked about the filter bubble phenomenon, and whether they could provide ways for important content to be presented to people, not just stuff they or their friends "like." they said that would be harder...that they're good at getting people to spend a few more minutes on their site, but to weigh whether something should be presented because it's important or they should see it, they didn't think they could do that.

I wonder if we will need sites like facebook much longer, if we can give IP addresses to everything from phones to shoelaces with IPv6, there really isn't any reason to go thru their site.

I remember seeing the picture phone when i was a kid at Disneyland, but it never caught on, they said because people didn't want anyone looking at them, but maybe technology had something to do with it too, but anyway, i think it'll come down to what people find they're comfortable with...because they could, say, get in the car and enter "chat mode" where their friends could just talk to them...

not sure id call it addicted but i do use it to speak with friends i dont get to see often due to distance. i only have people in my friends list that im actually fine with sharing info with, even if just generic info, so instead of thousands of friends i have around 50 or so, i find its enough as there are those who really live out their lives on it and too much drama just weirds me out. mind you, too much drama leads to more vaping...hmmm :brow:

i do find forums to be a more user friendly way of discussing topics in a more "closer to reality" sort of way vs silly replies and "Likes". but i think it has its place. :2c:

Don't have one, and unless e-mail disappears then I will never need one. Seems like people just waste time on that crap, or are looking for sex

More importantly I strongly disagree with their stand on Marijuana, Privacy, and underage children using websites such as theirs.

I started on FB when it was just for colleges and universities...was a great way to keep in touch with friends that moved away. Little by little I've used it less and less, but when the flood hit Minot, it turned into a GREAT way to keep informed, without having to be glued to a TV.
Woke up on June 2nd, did my routine, and hopped on FB to see the news. Turned out to be a great resource about telling us if and when we had to evacuate, and has been extremely helpful in quashing the rumor mills.

Strangely enough, I moved to PA in between the mandatory evacuations (and later flooding), and it's been good to be able to keep track of what is happening back in ND.

However, after the waters recede, I'll go back to not really checking it out that often. Timesink.
