this, but somewhere along the lines it became "rap" music. rapping is however, like you say, only one of the elements. then enter gangster rap. by this point anybody rapping consiously was considered "hip hop", "underground", or even "nerd rap". that is where i believe the whole rap and hip hop are different idea came from.

I agree with what you're saying 2clicker. I would say this is definitely where the misconception comes from. Or perhaps it isn't so much of a misconception anymore and just a matter of semantics.
Hip hop when used in terms of music alone seems to lend itself to more of a "conscious" style of rapping, whereas rap seems to confer more of a sinister or gangster/gritty style IMO. However any artist who'd be consider "hip hop" is still essentially rapping. Hip Hop is truthfully much broader than music or rap alone and is really a culture.

i was also a monster wu head. still am actually. liquid swords, tical, return to the 36 chambers, the bob digi stuff, pretty much anything rza did i was all over. love the kill bill shit. gravediggas. i used to roll around in a white 93 jeep cherokee with a wu sticker on the back we dubbed the "wu-wagon". lots of good times in that jeep. i even got me some wallaby clarks.

I love all kinds of hip hop and rap music. My genres I listen to are pretty cyclical. I will get into a certain style for a couple weeks then move on. Currently I am on kind of back on a Chief Kamachi kick. @Terpenoid digging that spit gemz cat gonna have to check some more of his stuff out he kinda reminds me of Diabolic. I need get over to the other thread and post some of my old bars up.




Really been diggin some of this dudes newest album never even heard of him til a couple weeks ago and he's Bay Area local too

Glad you guys are liking Spit Gemz. The guy is slept on hard, he's starting to make a name now though. I started listening to him a few years ago and he keeps getting better all the time IMO, I don't know of many rappers I can say that about.

I've got two pairs of wallies! I was a huge Ghostface fan. I kind of grew away from Wu Tang a bit because I literally listened to them almost exclusively for years. I actually missed a Ghostface show in my city a few weeks ago. Truthfully I would have gone if didn't have plans with a girl who would have been very upset if I'd cancelled on her. Could have had a free ticket and everything.... Shame :\

I did get to see Killa Priest at a R.A the Rugged Man show once...

Anyone get to hear a better tomorrow yet??

I picked it up yesterday on my way to work and got to listen to it afterwards from start to finish thru some rza chambers while enjoying a hash session thru the vapman. I really like the album its not like any other wu album in a good way. They still spit the raw as lyrics but the beats outta this world, wasnt sure what to expect but i fuck with it. I read reviews on amazon of people knocking it saying it sounds weak like clock radio speakers haha idk but i dont think the GZA would agree with using his rhymes to diss his rhymes haha. They only minor issue i had with the album was in the song miracle they hook sounds like a disney musical but they verses and beat to that song is sick as well as how the beat ends really changes the energy. Over all its the Wu Tang Clan and they came hard to prove that with 20 years under there belt they have all mastered there OWN style while staying true to the roots.

Now to waiting to hear what this new ghostface album is gonna be like. I was fan of twelve reasons to die..

If you like hip hop then this is the post for you. im compelled to recommend this phenomenal album to some kindred souls.

The Black Knights (a wu-tang clan affiliate) has put out a dope album which is produced by John Frusciante. The mastermind guitarist behind many of red hot chilli peppers best songs and as well as being a fucking next-level producer for a variety of genres)

here are some of the best.

Roundtable - layed back dark beat, classic hip hop vibe to it with some creative wordplay and satisfying verses

Never Let Go - this drop&drag hypnotic beat will pull you in, and the hard hitting one liners and aggressive slur flow is intoxicating. if you enjoy good beats and MCs then this track is a must hear, and the hook brings a tear to my eye, it's a gorgeous sample which contrasts very nicely against the evil undertones in this track. LISTEN TO THIS ONE



and the last track on the album is Deja Vu (so you know I endorse it)

This playful flow with a hint of dark sinicism is a special one. It grew on me after I first heard it, and it now gets played atleast every day due to its relaxed, downtemp vibe and truly emotional and real lyrics & energy




the whole album is great, I highly highly suggest that you check it out. you won't be disappointed by this wonderfully produced record
