Ok keeping my expectations low and checking it out. His first two major label albums were amazing. After that he put out a shitty album Lasers blaming it on the label. Then he came out with Food & Liquor II which didnt have his labels influence and it doesnt deserve to even have that title of F&L.

But then he comes out with this, so I know he still got it:

This is his best best work since The Cool. I didn't even mind Lasers but it was a disappointment after one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Check out Mural and you will understand that 95% of rappers aren't on this guy's level.

If any of you guy's like funk, this cd is so legit. The guy in general does some amazing mixes, two JayZ+Radiohead (Jaydiohead) and does a reggae one for each of Mos Def & Talib Kweli. I'm partial to the Wu, and partial to some funk, it's a nice day out, listened to this earlier at work

Chessachess, fucken right. I'm still convinced his spoonerized minds is one of the greatest pieces of lyricism ever and that purely from a lyrical point of view he's probably amongst the most skilled rappers of all time (seriously, I know al you American's are groaning but his albums 'From the Ashes' and 'New mic order, part 1' are unbelievable).

This is pretty damn impressive as well

Still, just been getting deep into the Dilla, what a legend. I think this video beautifully compliments the track.

Generally not a fan of "new" hip hop. But, Run The Jewels, I've really been about them lately. Probably because they aren't really new per say; it's El P doing the production and rapping, which I was pretty unfamiliar with, but I saw that he did The Cold Vein by Cannibal Ox which I used to listen to in college. And Killer Mike!! He's on ton's of Outkast songs, who I also love.

The beats are all banging bass heavy thumpers. Almost like a club rap song, but actually good? I'm honestly much more of a fan of other types of hip hop, I usually like my beats a bit more sampled with old school songs (think early Kanye) and my lyrics a bit more heady...but RTJ has been perfect for driving and working out at the gym. RTJ's lyrics aren't that bad though, I do give them credit. They got 2 cd's and I don't think either of them goes above 40 minutes, so easy listening too.

I love the hip hop history lines Killer Mike throws out in the above:

Yes, dude! Cannibal Ox?! Crazy ass production & lyrics, Atom and Scream Phoenix are prolly some of my favorite tracks from The Cold Vein! El-P did A LOT, pretty sure he owned the label DefJux, it's what got me into hip-hop in my high school days. I think my first 2 artists from that camp besides El-P were Camu Tao and Cage.

But if you're feeling RTJ and Killer Mike, check out R.A.P. music, you won't be disappointed. This is all produced by El-P too.
