i have been a practicing self taught graphic designer for about the last 8 years, but lately have only been designing in my free time lately. anyway, i am going to start designing a lot more and have questions for the more seasoned designers. so here we go.

what design software are you using? if adobe are you using cs5, cs6, or cc?

are you using a pen and tablet? if so what brand? if wacom which model. i am considering getting a Intuos Pro medium.

what kind of website are you using?

how do you sell your product/services?

The wife uses CS6. She doesn't use any sort of tablet. She does custom wedding invites, web design, logos, business cards, etc. She has done a couple of her client's websites through Squarespace and Shopify. She has her own website for clients to get quotes and to show her portfolio.

I use CS6 at work and home. I have a Wacom Intous (3 I think) tablet that I don't use as much as I should.

I don't have a website, I just do freelance design for people that I know. The company my mom works for always needs a bunch of ads resized that the agency they went to designed. They want an arm and a leg for simple text changes and resizing, so I do it for $50 per ad (usually takes me 15 min!)

nice. can you IM me the link to her site? i would love to check it out. been looking into shopify and other sites like big cartel etc... going to be selling shirts and ink jet prints of my stuff. and im also thinking about trying sites like threadless for designs that i wont be using for my main site.

regarding the wacom... the main reason i want one is because i keep reading/hearing about how much faster one can work as opposed to a traditional mouse/track pad.

I got my degree in advertising, and just kinda fell into graphic design my senior year of college. It stuck with me and I was hired by the government right out of school as a designer and I've been there since. I've never taken a graphic design class, so I'm self taught.

The Wacom is great! Much faster and more accurate than using the mouse, however I only use it when I'm free-handing. Where I work, it is extremely fast paced, so most of the time I'll have and hour to design a poster or brochure. Lots of stock photos and simplistic designs, but we also get the chance to work on long-term projects too... That's when it gets fun and creative.
