Many gifs on any page will usually end up slowing down loading times a lot... I like the idea but I like how fluid FC currently is!
Animated Avatars ??

You can see the animated gif avatars just by clicking on the avatar--going to the person's full profile isn't necessary. The animation is still there--you just can't see it until you click on the avatar. IMO, that's a great compromise--animations are easy to enjoy but aren't jumping in your face all the time.
