An Acknowledge button

Periodically while reading through the forum I will run across a post where someone is expressing anguish or frustration or anger or feels they have been wronged in some way or are sharing a sadness. I will often feel a desire to acknowledge the post, but I find it difficult to "like" it, for obvious reasons. Somehow hitting "like" to express my solidarity or sympathy or even agreement with something awful just doesn't fit with what I mean to express, so I usually just don't do anything unless I feel strongly enough (or strong enough) to post with words. It would be nice, I think, to have an "ACK" button, or something similar that doesn't seem as much like applause as a "like" button does.

Now, if this seems silly to y'all and the common behavior is just to "like" these kind of posts, or if the software doesn't allow adding another button or whatever I can obviously go on as before, but I thought I would bring it up because I have often thought about it while I hovering by mouse over the "like" button.

If you like a post it might mean you feel empathy towards that person. If someone is feeling sadness it makes them feel better to know that you care. IMO men think differently than women.

I can't imagine what might ever give you that idea...
I was under the assumption that we all thought the same also.. Especially in regards to tv show preference, swearing, drinking beer, ballet and wearing panties.

I would like an acknowledge button also. I can see that feature fitting in quite well here if it was ever considered!

CK, I agree and that's how I take it. There's no good way other than 'like', and I think (at least on FB) people have figured out 'like' can be empathic and supportive. A post that reaches out, even in pain, can be worthy of a like. I see no need or benefit from having any 'dislike' or 'fuckthis' button. Ask one of the posters who lost a loved one and posted about it. I'd bet they felt better for the 'likes' and I'd be really surprised if they took it the wrong way

i suppose two buttons is fine but we dont need to look like buzzfeed with 12 options of what you think of everhy post...
