Discontinued Aida

Hi all,
There's a new vaporizer listed today on a well known retail store: the Aida (https://www.fasttech.com/products/1986600).
It's cheap (44.90$), small, variable temperature control, metal housing, decent battery size.
It looks like another interesting effort from an unidentified Chinese manufacturer, in the wave of the Vapormax and Titans (i.e. not an ecig based burner).

Anyone has seen something like that before?

It looks maybe interesting, first I thought it was already a Arizer air counterfeit but I think not after to see some oven pics...

Feature wise, it's well equipped for the money. It's a real mystery vape though, since apparently only Fasttech sells it. It shows up on herbvapors.com, but that site just links to various on-line dealers, depending on the model, and with the Aida, it kicks you to Fasttech. I get nothing when searching dhgate or alibaba.
45 day money back guarantee apparently
Since Fasttech seems to be located in Hong Kong, returning it for a refund means you pay return shipping to the same location, and that's too costly to make sense. So you can forget about returning it. You pay $45 and hope you like it and hope it doesn't break down.

So the people over at r/vaporents didn't seem so interested in this, as they seem to do with most Chinese vapes for some reason, so I bought one of these to see how it is. I haven't gotten it yet since it was only ordered yesterday. I don't expect this to exceed the Flowermax or Titan-2 (which I have, also a Titan-1 as well, but I think this could be better than the Titan-1 at least. What really interests me about this is the removable mouthpiece. Does anybody think it would be possible to get a 3rd party one that's the right size so I could have a different matierial, like glass for instance.

Anybody else pull the trigger?

If it works and the vapor path is safe, it could be really interesting for a budget or gift vape. I'm also looking forward to read your review @jmasta111 !

@mrweed : don't you want to try a 61th vape too? :brow:

So i got this vaporizer in. Ill post pictures later on (please pm me if I forget). Been busy with new years and what not.

Anyways, the device in terms of functionality is similar to the herbstick in how it fuctions. And just like the herbstick it is not really efficient in vaporizing the herb.

It looks like to the arizer air in shape, but it is nowhere near its functionality. The device needs a lot more improvements.

It's nowhere near the price either. It should be compared to other sub $100 portables. Actually 2 of these would be under $100. For the money, I think it has a lot of functionality, mainly the variable digital temp.
The device needs a lot more improvements.
I'm sure they could make improvements, but then it would cost more, and the warranty would still be costly to use. For $45 delivered, I think this is as good as they're going to make it. At this price, most people don't expect much of a warranty anyway.

Did you try tamping the load? I assume it's mostly conduction and all conduction vapes I tested so far worked way better when the load was compacted.

We're looking forward your detailed review.

I agree with KeroZen these style vapes need to be tamped.

I've been curious about this since I saw it as well. Looks nice with temp controls. The only part that stopped me from ordering it was the "acrylic tip" that is advertised.

Alright, so Ill give a better review here.

Pros:
LED display with battery usage, temperature the device is at, and the temperature the device is set to.
The device is sturdy.
Physically looks nice.
Mouthpiece can be removed from unit.
Has a micro-usb charging point.

Cons:
Very poor vaporization even when the chamber unit is packed still very little vapor.
The buttons on the device are bad quality (My third button broke down, meaning I cant go down in temperature anymore. I literally only used it twice)
Led lights are also bad quality too and quite frankly very tacky.
The cap over the chamber is held by weak o-rings, i rather have it screwed in.
The mouthpiece seems very poor quality, the cheapest thing I ever seen on any vaporizer. However, it is very hard to break (I got bored and decided to bite it, smash it, step on it, and yeah the thing can take a beating).

Overall thinking:

This convection style of heating found in the Aida and also the herbstick chambers seems to be failure. Why? How does sucking cold air from outside and going through the herb is convection heating since air outside is too cool for vaporization and also cold enough to really cool down the heating chamber. It is just redundant. This will not work.

Thanks for the review, FrigginRights. So it can't compete with devices 5 times more expensive. But, it would be better compared to other cheap conduction devices like the Titan and Vapormax. They do work for many with some practice, so i don't really understand the "This will not work". Hey i never tried high end models, poor me ;)

I think the manufacturer is Istar, and the (useless) presentation page is here: http://www.istarcigs.com/vaporizers/dry-herb-vaporizer/aida/

This will not work.
Some posters on reddit.com have given this model a positive review, especially for the price (currently $37.90 delivered), so I doubt that the design is one that just doesn't work. It's pretty counterproductive to take a product to market if it doesn't perform the task it's designed to do.

My take on this cheapie- it'll take a while to get delivery, and you can forget about a warranty (anything low priced you have to return to the far east isn't worth the return shipping cost), but it may be a good investment if you need a starter vape and aren't sure vapor is for you, or may be a decent backup if you need one,

The point of your post isn't really clear to me, since it's not a response to what I posted, but if you're talking about models that should be moved from 'upcoming and unreleased', then feel free to submit a list to any staff member.

max,
This units issue looks very similar to my herbstick Eco's (im sure bauway/ciggos involved). The design let's in too much cool air and makes an otherwise up to snuff heating element seem anemic and the vapor whispy.

I remedied it by restricting the airflow, not completely but more inline with other conduction vapes. I suspect if you covered one side or a portion of both those massive air intakes on the side you would be far more pleased with the units performance.

Experiment and get back with us please.
