advice for a stolen (black) DBV

hey guys, I was just wondering if you had any suggestions about my particular problem. I just do not know what to do and am very sad/pissed off about it.

so anyways, i volunteered at a festival recently which was about 3 blocks away from the apartment I stayed at for it. after my volunteer shift, i went back to the apartment and there was a little party over there with some of my closest friends. we vaped, they smoked and vaped, and drinking was going on as well. after about 2 hours of this, we all decided to stroll through the festival again (so that I could actually enjoy it instead of looking for trouble-makers, etc). many of my friends recognized other people at the festival and invited them back to the apartment for the second round (the "pre-party" round was round 1).

for this second round, we vaped very shortly then I packed & put away the DBV because I was finished. the other people just stuck to smoking (i dont really smoke anymore) for the rest of the night. people left throughout the night, but the last of them left around 3 am.

anyways, the next morning, i was going to have another DBV quick session, but when i went to my case, the DBV was missing from the case. this really confused me because why would someone take the DBV and not the wand (or the other things in my case)? my friends are not vaporists and i didnt get the vaporist-vibe from the other people. I trust that my friends would not take it (im not sure how to prove this to you readers, but I KNOW my friends didnt take it) - it must have been another person who came over. I waited a week already, kept checking on craigslist (to see if someone posted it for sale), and told my friends to contact who they knew of the guests...but surprisingly, nobody admitted to stealing it.

initially i had hope of getting it back, but as this week went by, i am slowly coming to the realization that it is gone for good.

does anyone have any suggestions on how to replace it? i am kind of low on cash right now & especially for a device that I already spent good money on. it was in mint condition and still covered by warranty, if that means anything at this point...

im so sad that people would come to my house & disrespect me like that...especially since I am the one who personally provided the alcohol, snacks, and even a lot of the ganja consumed...i was trying to do a good thing for my friends and provide a fun safe atmosphere where people could come and have a good time without worrying about cops, money, their other problems, etc. and was compensated in turn with dishonesty.

any suggestions on what to do would be helpful.

by the way, i already looked into making a claim by way of renters insurance, but was not sure how to make a police report for this item (and also my deductible is $500 - which does not help when talking about a $220 machine).

I am sure that all of you have had something stolen from you before and you are probably familiar with that feeling you get when you are supposed to have something that is no longer there. The difference is that this is a device I relied upon and its loss has had a GREAT and NOTICEABLE impact in my daily life. I am convinced that my immediate friends invited over have nothing to do with this because they know how serious it is for me. It must have been someone who I did not know very well and I am just not sure of how to go about getting it back. I also hate accusing people of doing something without proof. I hope you understand what I am going through.

also i am not looking for any sympathy or stuff like that from you guys - i understand that these things happen in life (even though i feel like i didnt deserve it - ESPECIALLY for all that i did that weekend) but I am just wondering if you ever went through this or know anyone who has gone through this or any suggestions on what i should do...

But, if you still have the wand and are low on funds, buy a hakko soldering iron and a new heater cover for now? Perhaps a cheap microphone stand to if that's in the budget?

Talk to the 7th floor folk and see if they would be willing to give you a deal on a scratch and dent DBV (minus the wand/mouthpiece/tubing/bag)

They might be able to hook you up with a pretty sweet deal on just a base unit.

I was actually considering that option. I havent got around to add up the costs of the hakko + costs of modifications yet, but I was TOTALLY thinking about that...

i guess i should take comfort in the fact that they cant really use it without the whip...especially since the whip & tube were sticking CLEARLY out of the front pocket & EVERYBODY (i think) at my post-party party saw me using this & all got to take a turn themselves...it would have been so obvious (the way i packed it in the case) that the tube is needed to use it.

but in reality, it pisses me off more because the dumbfuck to stole it pretty much made it so that we were both fucked...i cant use it with what i have & they cant use it with what they have...

im wondering if someone did it super drunk & realizes it was a stupid thing to do...but took it just to take it if that makes sense...i know that i didnt offend anybody there & hadnt offended them before, so i know it wasnt as though they did it to punish me or something...

but i would have actually felt better if the person who took it was able to use it...

it also seemed like everyone at the party did not even SEE a DBV before, so its not like something they were planning on buying for a while but just didnt know whether they should buy it or not...

anyways im just rambling my thoughts now...but ya i saw that one dude that posts and he has the instructions for a DIY hakko modification...just gotta find out how much that costs to do...

haha i feel you...ya i guess you can never see these things coming...and i remembered back to one of the first times i tried a vaporizer at a party & was grateful to have the chance to do so...

i thought it was safe enough since that is a place i pretty much consider my own (my sisters apt). maybe i will move on to something better...but you will always know a piece of your collection is gone...a HUGE piece...

yup im working on that. it seems like people sell the whole package together (case, pick, DBV, wand, etc...) and its hard to get them to split up the package.

maybe ill find one soon. im thinking when the cloud comes out, a few people may get rid of their DBVs at a lower price?

im going to keep a lookout...

i was thinking about it. i do have my mflb for now, but after i got DBV, its been hard to use the mflb. i am starting to re-appreciate it though so thats good. at least i have something with me now that is useable (my volcano stays at a different house because it is too big for me to use right now where i stay).

I noticed that a log wasn't in you signature. I know you are debating between oil vapes, but maybe just get yourself a new log and see how you like it. I'm personally excited about the proclaimed "conservation" of my medication with the logs as opposed to my 7th Floor products (LOVE them, but it certainly is a big hitter compared to my MFLB). I've actually been cutting my steady-state level this week in anticipation of the new log. Hopefully it will blow me away And a new log can be at your house in a couple days

@ treecityrnd: i was thinking about those log vapes. the only thing about them is the warmup time & that they are SUPER expensive (in my opinion). i know that they are worth it for efficiency & stuff...that is very important to me when talking about vapes actually...maybe if i find a great deal on one, i may go for it...never used one before though & they do look really cool. i dont have the numbers in my head, but i remember when i was looking at them, i considered them expensive for some reason.

i just emailed 7th floor. lets see what they say...

i do believe in karma, learning from mistakes, and trusting guests invited inside my home. i just wonder how to handle these situations in the future. it was such a fun weekend (otherwise) that id hate to have to change the way it went down for future get togethers. im always "the-more-the-merrier" type guy...should i hold it against all my future guests & never trust other people anymore?!?! i seriously dont know...

That's a great suggestion, and a reasonably priced one too. Then he can have the best of both worlds. The PA with the LB at home and then being able to leave with the LB and some batteries so he can toke on the go! I don't think any other vaporizer can do that. That alone is worth a patent!

ive honestly been thinking about that too...especially since i kind of have to hold my batteries at a slight angle (or press it so that the side of the battery hits that contact point for the negative) because the hole on my MFLB is a little bigger than the battery (my mflb is a filthy slut).

so that is a little annoying thing i deal with now. ive really been thinking about the PA, but after i got my mflb i upgraded the whole household to use those sanyo eneloop batteries (got so many of them from costco so that we could all kind of convert all of our battery-using electronics - like the nintendo wii eats up batteries so fast). so im just trying to stick to batteries since i have so many.

but ive definitely been thinking about that lately because i can always use my batteries for portable. thanks so much for the advice, cluffman!

While I, in truth, really don't believe in anything concrete - am a skeptic at heart - I think that, in a totally practical sense, there is no justice, no karma, no righteous comeuppance. There is no orderliness in the universe, no balance, no absolute morality or great spirit which will come down and smite the people who do wrong. The piece of shit who stole your vape is probably healthy and reasonably happy in his ignorant, crass, thieving self. With any luck he'll steal from the wrong place at the wrong time and end up in a concrete booty-house, and someone will rename him "Susan."

All you can really take comfort in is the fact that you likely had great parents, had a good childhood, a proper adulthood and have developed into a balanced, moral person who doesn't steal and cheat. The person who stole from you probably did it partly because they didn't have any of that, and they're WAY poorer for that then you are for losing a DBV.

ya. at some point, its just not worth it anymore. its been 1 week & 1 day so far...i wonder when i will give up on getting it back...also, weird how it happened on either 9/10 or 9/11 (depending at what time they took it)...obviously not even comparable to 9/11/01, but still a little tiny bad thing happened...

as im typing this, the news guy after the NFL game says "michigan's attorney general says that the owner of an apartment building, hotel, or similar facility can stop people from using or growing medical marijuana in the building". more depressing news (unrelated)...

I was using the Eneloops with my old box before I used the warranty and got a new one. At that point the Eneloops just didnt fit the NEW box, so I think the problem is that you use the wrong batteries with this newer version of the MFLB, not that yours is just a dirty slut

you know...i never really had issues with throwing these things before...but theres a first for everything i guess...

like i said, i have no evidence but am 100% that it wasnt my personal friends that took it...im used to going to a lot of parties down here where theres always a few new faces here & there & everybody kind of assumes that somebody "vouched" for those new faces...

when i say i provided alcohol, it was a 1.75L bottle of crown royal & i kind of expected my friends to pour themselves a drink or 2 or 3 even...i think another person brought a smaller bottle of crown there, too. snacks were just chips & random stuff (since it was pretty much my fridge & shelves that was there). as for supplying ganja, i had an ounce of "mids/regs" and i think there was about 3 blunts rolled out of it (i stuck to vaping). other people definitely brought their stuff and were smoking on that, too.

so as you can see, i did not buy anything particularly for the event (thus spending my money solely for the event), but rather just shared what i already had for people to use if they wanted to. thats all fine with me. and i didnt mean to come off as though people were just counting on me for everything - they brought some drinks & smoke...i guess i exaggerated when i said "most of the ganja consumed"...but i definitely invested in this party & someone fucked me over.

but anyways, i was joking about my mflb being a slut...

I get what you mean, still things that are yours/that you provided at your expense and your place etc etc...

Hope some new batteries would fit better in your LB! the most recommended are either the current stock batteries or the Powerex2700s. both fit much better in the new Box and wont just fall out, itll be much easier to make a connection too.

actually that kind of sucks about that because i spent so much money on these eneloops kind of specifically so i could always use em in the mflb. it kind of messes up my whole plan. i wonder if they have a stock of any older ones if i ever need to replace this one...i kind of committed to the eneloops already...& i dont feel like spending money on more batteries
