Hello everyone! Ex-lurker here, who has signed up to be part of this ongoing project, as it seems to be headed in a direction I would like to achieve...the e-spliff. Not after a one-hitter quitter, but something that is tasty, active, and can be enjoyed for 6-12 hits to get me in a good place. I actually originally experimented with this back in 2010, when ecigs were just becoming available and accepted to the masses, with poor results. So far, this thread would indicate that sub-ohm, TC style vaping, combined with some commercially available products can yield great results. I have a suggestion, and a couple of questions....
@randomtoker, it seems like emulsification might be a partial solution to getting higher %s of VG into mixes. I too would like to get up to 50% VG, as it is a superior Vape. Have you considered Triethyl Citrate? This is a common ingredient in several e-liquid-recipes flavours, that appears to act as a pseudo-emulsifyer. Have a look at this thread here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice...rate_the_new_eliquid/?st=ir8dwj4o&sh=5cac2a18
My experience with using flavourings that contain Triethyl Citrate ( purely in making Nic juice BTW) is that it does help blend different flavours on different bases (PG, VG, Alcohol etc) better and quicker. It also adds a thick, moist and juicy quality to juices, which may help counter perceived harshned from PG/PEG.
Current research would seem to indicate that Triethyl Citrate is fairly innert, low risk, and safe to Vape/inhale. It is present in quantities on 1-10% in several flavourings made by The Perfumers Apprentice/The Flavour Apprentice (TPA in vaping lingo) and 10%+ in one specific Flavour - TPA strawberry. Given that these flavours are usually mixed betwen 10-20% in Nic juices, this would indicate that 2-3% pure Triethyl Citrate would be suitable to help with emulsification in THC juices. Pure Triethyl Citrate is available from TPA... Or so I believe.
Note: I have no quantifiable experience using this for THC/PEG/VG emulsion. This is just theory and anecdotal evidence. However, it seems a logical path to pursue, and I would, if I had the money, or access to concentrate.
Which leads onto my first question....
Concentrate is just not available where I live (Europe). I have access to fairly good flower, and occasionally Hash. Also bubble bags. I am fairly confident with a QWISO tek as well, so theoretically QWISO concentrate is possible. HOWEVER, In would be interested to hear peoples opinions on how much QWISO preserves the strain specific qualities on flower. I love Sativa's, and don't want to QWISO a good haze strain, and loose all of its beautiful headiness. I understand
@randomtoker has had good results with adding terpenes back into liquid, and getting effects, but this seems a touch remedial. Does QWISO strip the individuality of flower? Could good quality full melt bubble be combined with PEG to make a THC base? How about ROSIN? (Am ploughing through the ROSIN thread ATM).
Question 2: has anyone considered adding extracts of other ethnobotanicals to THC eliquid to encourage synergistic effects. I am thinking of the common ones associated with weed....Kanna, Blue lotus and chamomile, although I think St Johns Wort, Passionflower and Rhodiola Rosea also bear some scrutiny. I know some people will dislike the concept of "adulterating" good weed, but as a European joint smoker, I have often enjoyed the synergistic effects of putting some Kanna or blue lotus flower in a large joint.
I have had results with a long-soak PG extraction of Chamomile, which produced a Vape with a strong Flavour (not necessarily unpleasant, but nothing I would describe as nice) and noticeable sedative qualities.
This is just me spitballing ideas here, but when I originally tried THC eliquid 5+ years ago, my aim was to try to recreate the specific effects of certain hashes I have smoked over the years...e.g. Adding ethnobotanicals to produce a strongly sedative effects (like Charas/Indian Cream) or mildly opiate-like effects (like Nepali Black) using Blue Lotus. I understand that some of these effects may be achievable using Terpenes....I am interested to see where that line of experiment goes.
Sorry for the long first post!!
