A few QWISO related questions

Well, after checking all of my local options, 91% is the best I could come up with, short of ordering online (next time)

I've done 3 washes, using ~7grams bud from the dispensary as starting product...about an even mix of Sour Diesel, AK 47, White Russian, and Sour OG Kush. I figure I should get a nice hybrid oil :-) I have the first two washes currenty evapping, double boiler style, and the third waiting to do the same. I also did a fourth wash, using my abv collection (~20grams) and the remains from the first three washes as well, which is waiting to evap along with the third wash.

I'll post pics of the results before and after I scrape.

Alright. The first two washes are done. For whatever reason, the second wash seemed to evaporate quicker than the first, so I scraped it first. The result is a yellow/amber colored shattery consistency oil. As I scraped it, some of it would flake off into dust, while the rest would curl up, as if you were scraping a thin layer of hard candy from a baking sheet while it was almost solid. As it curled up while i scraped it, it turned hard lke candy; It would shatter if crushed, but with slight heat, it seems moldable. I haven't fully harvested the dish though, I've just scraped the majority of the oil to one side. The bottom of my dish doesn't seem to be perfectly flat, but I'll deal with the issue if/when it arises (not being able to scrape it all out)

I put a hit on top of a little sour og Kush, in a small bubbler. I would love to try vaping this stuff but I don't have a Vape with me, just a bubbler, due to limited resources where i have to be to make qwiso. :-/ So I held the lighter above the bubbler, and inhaled slowly, melting the hash down into a dark oil. No vapor or smoke was produced. Then I held the lighter above the bowl and inhaled again, getting the oil to bubble a little :-) i tried to hold the lighter steady enough to keep it from combusting but failed (a little windy outside). I got a half Vape half smoke hit, that was monstrous. I held it in for about 15 seconds and then let it out, before proceeding to cough my ass off! It was really really tasty and the effects were quick in onset, and have yet to stop.

I have pictures, of the second wash scrapings, the bubbler with the oil on top as a solid, and after i melted it. I also have pics of the third and fourth washes evapping...the only problem, is where I am, and will be for the next few hours, i don't have a computer...just my iPhone. So unless I find an iPhone solution to uploading photos to somewhere to link to FC, it'll be tomorrow.

\/ Melted down with bic, by inhaling slowly (taste/ change in size/ bubbles indicated it needed to be purged more IMO) \/


So, I put the rest of the second wash scrapings (scraped together in center of pyrex) and placed it into the oven, on the "Warm" setting, which is between off and the lowest temp of 200 degrees, and left it to purge for about 10 minutes. I pulled out the pyrex, which now had a pile of slightly darker much better looking oil I scraped it up, and it turned into a solid almost immediately after I scraped it. I can mold it if I heat it up first, otherwise it just shatters when bent. It looks about like maple syrup in color; a little darker than I'd have liked to see, but still good enough for me!



The first and third washes got the same process as the second wash, double boiled until all liquid was gone, then scraped, oven heated, and scraped again. All of them came out fairly similar, with slight variation in color, so I placed the scrapings from the first three washes all together. The fourth wash, which contained the bud used for the first three + the abv, came out much darker as expected. Almost a black. It is a very shiny ball either way.

I weighed my remains from the first three washes and it came to .9g My scales only weigh to x.xg, so thats as accurate as I can get. Also, I smoked a bit, I would estimate .3-.4 between the first bowl and when I got home to weigh it. Not the best return, but it's good enough for me, for my second Qwiso attempt.

I'm anxious for slightly warmer weather so I can do some BHO runs and get what I really want

I've been vaping the oil for the past day or so now, and it's wonderful! I went to the LHS and picked up a nail/dome/male-male adapter setup + torch, for the tube that I use with the EQ. I'm loving this setup, and I'm pretty hooked to dabbing! It's much more effective than vaping bowl after bowl of flower; a dab or two, and I'm set for a while Once I clean my pieces I'll post a video of a few dabs.

Alternatively, the oil vapes great in the EQ as well. If I want to sit and enjoy vaping a bowl, I can top it with a little oil. It melts into the bud on the first hit, and it makes the bowl last significantly longer!

since i starting working with oil ive really enjoyed it. before the vape pen stuff i was using it with flowers via DBV with fantastic results. i still dont have a traditional dome and nail setup, but im loving the oil over flowers overall now.

I can see why! I have fallen in love with oil a few times, but have never been in the position to make it, aside from this time, and my first time last year. Now I believe I'll be able to do it on a regular enough basis to use oil primarily...until I get my Cloud. Hopefully by that time, I'll still have a decently moderated tolerance

Oh man 2clicker... the first dab you take will change your outlook on this wonderful flower haha. Its incredible and totally worth getting the nail

nail/globe setups are quite affordable these days, my first dome/nail setup cost me around 25 dollars for quality boro.

I knew I was getting F'd over price-wise at the LHS, but it was the only quick option...$60 for a 18mm male-male adapter/nail/dome. It sucks going to "the headshop" as opposed to, one of the headshops. We have a few around here, but only one that is good; a couple with cheap easily broken glass/no gong anything, and a couple very over-priced shops...one more-so than the other.

I've still been dabbin' away. I haven't really looked back either my EQ has sat in the drawer, and my flowers have gone un-touched.

Dabbed a bit of the Qleaner/Sour OG Kush last night after finishing up, and it was delicious. Been going on the White Russian/Sour today, and it's equally tasty.

Purpl3 if your getting into dabbing/ oils you outta check out astronaut glass. He's a good friend of mine who's innovated a Ti-tube instead of nail so its all one lo pro peice.

Since last posting any results, I've done a couple more runs. The two most recent (a few days ago, and right now) have been gaining interesting results.

both this evening and last time, I have got a wonderful yellow/amber shatter product, yet when I put it in the oven it produces numerous tiny little bubbles. From everything i'm reading, it seems like the strain is just auto-buddering. I haven't whipped any air into the product myself, but it is bubbling up like budder does. I have even used a torch like the bho guys do, to pop a bubble and see if it flames up, but it doesnt; leaving me to believe that the bubbles are in fact air or terps.

I like the solid clear candy like shatter product better than the budder, but both are workable...anyone else get this with iso? I'll post pics soon.

Got some shatter that started to budder up nicely but it was gone before I knew it

Started as a 1/2 oz BHO run of some blue dream, heated, iso purge and voilá some delish shatter.

I think it has a lot to do with the type of herb whether it auto-budders or shatters or stays oily also.

Hmm. Oil really is quite an interesting thing! I've somehow managed to heat/cool it back to a nice shatter! I'm going to post up some pics in the Oil Thread, AKA Spiderman's Oil Extravaganza! in a few minutes, when they're uploaded.

I also saw the Amazon post earlier in this thread. Di you think that is my best/cheapest option. I think it was @2clicker that sourced the Grainger, id like your opinion.

grainger does carry it in less than gallon sizes. ill post a link in a bit. im at the eye doc and without my contacts right now. honestly grainger is not the cheapest so they may be more expensive than amazon on any size. but, you likely have a grainger local to you so you could save in shipping costs by picking it up.

Ive never thought of iso as a safe solvent. Ive read about not using denaturaled alchol to winterize. Now im using a solvent to make canna caps. Is denaturaled safe to use as a solvent, if not what am I tring to avoid in my 99 iso.

Isopropyl is not denatured alcohol. Denatured alcohol is typically referring to ethanol which has small amounts of methanol and other toxic substances to render the alcohol unsafe to drink.

The 100% isopropyl that I use even comes with an MSDS that says that it won't cause any harm if a small amount is accidentally drank by an individual!!!

I would be more concerned about the trace impurities in butane used for BHO than I would about leftover isopropyl in ISO produced concentrates.

Still guys let's not forget the name of the game here: purge out the solvent!!!! If there is any ISO taste or smell left in the least, if there are any large irregular shaped bubbles in your wax/shatter after the purge is done - it isn't done purging!

I have tried vac purged BHO produced by 2 long-term knowledgable members of this board, made with the same kind of nugs as I have. Both agree that my QWISO shatter from the same is tastier!

ISO is perfectly safe to use to make concentrates! It is so overly pungent that if some is left in your concentrate, it will stink to high heavens. This is a pro, not a con. You should be purging your solvent completely out of your concentrates guys! The ridiculous odor of ISO makes this process easier to complete. It can be quite hard to pick up ethanol or especially butane by smell! Count your blessings that ISO allows your to detect its presence by smell better than other solvents and purge your concentrates properly!

The MSDS itself highlights that you could even DRINK a small amount with no harm. Accordingly, if anyone leaves enough ISO in their dabs to do anyone harm, then their purge process was clearly inadequate.

I use 99% ISO from Safeway, washes from 10-15 seconds (frozen and unfrozen), tried air, heat, and vac purging, but still end up with with the residue after dabbing. Filtering is done with unbleached coffee filters.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?
