8 Michigan Cities Decriminalize Cannabis at the 2014 Midterms

We've all heard the news of Oregon, Washington D.C., and Alaska voting to Legalize, and the heartbreaking loss by just 2 points in Florida. But what you might not have heard is that 8 Michigan Cities including Saginaw, Port Huron, Mt. Pleasant, Pleasant Ridge, Huntington Woods and Berkley voted to eliminate all local penalties for the possession, use, transfer and transportation of small amounts of cannabis. This is a big win for Michigan! Including Ann Arbor that makes nine cities in the state where cannabis is almost legal. Hopes set high for 2016!

Love hearing all the stories how attitudes and regulations are changing around the country about cannabis. We just need to make sure we vote folks into office that are mj friendly.

Also we need to put pressure on the Feds to change the ruling on how they classify cannabis. This herb needs to be legal throughout the U.S. Leave it to the states to decide. It should be a majority vote. That is bullshit in Florida about having to have 60% for a referendum to pass. The good citizens of that state need to get that changed.

58% voted yes for medical cannabis that should have been sufficient to get it passed. I feel sad for the folks that could have benefited from mmj.

Well the old white dudes got to decide all that, and because of corperate interests and lobbyists they are in no mood to change there stance. And you know who votes for old white dudes, old white dudes, its up to us, young people especially, to get out there and vote to get people in office that share our views. Especially in the mid terms, people tend to forget about them since there isn't a president gettijg elected, but they ate just as important! So get out there and vote because its up to you to change things.

Old white dudes don't control that, money and civil forfeiture laws and those who benefit from that control that. How do I know??? Because I'm an old white dude. Just remember most of us old white dudes were young white dudes in the '60s. And one of these days in the near future you're going to be an old dude too.
You simply need to vote in those who support legalization.

But you can't deny that for the most part our government is made up of old white dudes, taking nothing away from old white dudes, just the reality. The money sways the old white dudes who make decisions then based on the opinions of those with the money. But the point being here is that the majority of people who support legalization, and those running to make changes, are liberal, and young people and minority tend to vote liberal. Young people tend to brush midterms to the wayside because we aren't electing a president, but you know who does care about midterms, old white dudes, who, more often than not, vote conservative. By getting the young and the minorities out to exercise their right to vote the liberal's won't blatantly lose elections like they did earlier this week, and reform will follow!

Some of those "old white dudes" need to go to the old white dude retirement home or hide him in the closet with Dick Cheney. :myday: Some of those guys in office have been there for years. A lot of them are in their 70s and some in their 80s. You do see some young faces .

OMG what about the republican woman from Iowa Joni Ernst voted as the first woman state senator. She's been in the Nat'l guard for many years and has risen to Lt Colonel. It sounds all good but when I heard that Sarah Palin had endorsed her that's when I became suspicious, and being a republican. Her slogan was she kept her country roots of castrating hogs and she would cut the pork. She rides a Harley and totes a pistol in her purse and still teaches Sunday school. It sounds a little too over the top. Too much like Sarah Palin. She's going to cause nothing but trouble and not in a good way. Let's hope somebody finds out a scandal like she secretly screws the mailman at lunchtime or something.

I tried to see what her stance on cannabis was. There wasn't much info.

It was all good until I read "old white dudes". Then downhill from there. COLOR Has nothing to do with it.
We have a Black President now. Remember? I know a lot of "old white dudes" voted for him. What young people need to do is stay informed and make educated decisions at the polls. They need to get out and vote.

Color has a lot to do with it I think, just because President Obama is black does not automatically mean that there is no racial prejudice in the government. And while plenty of old white dudes did vote for President Obama, the majority of Caucasian males 60+ did not. Unfortunately race is involved in some form or another in this country in far to many situations. But this all seems a little off topic for a thread about Michigan Decriminalization ;) Though, if you would like to debate this further, which I would thoroughly enjoy, we should probably move to the right thread.
