I really do not know. If I was inclined to use Iso (which I'm not) I would be more leery of what type of plastic. Please everyone do not go by my method as the safest, as I can't say the solvent isn't leeching all kinds of horrible nasties into my extract. I would just rather go this route than others. As always, do your research!!!!

I reiterate that the solvent/herb mixture is in contact with the plastic aeropress chamber for less than 2 min. If the green meanies can attack my extract that fast, then I would expect a similar scenario when pouring 212 degree water through it. I am aware that water and ethanol are not of the same "aggrressive" nature. I can tell you I feel confident there is no "heavy metal" or "mystery oil" present in any amounts

that would be awesome if the guy that i bought my mesh from came through the forum i found because i wanted to start making my own version of an e-nail. the internet is an increasingly small place ive found, which goes against any logic.

i was talkin trash about a youtuber in the fast tech forums and he turned out to already had posted in the thread. serious case of foot-in-mouth.

back on topic: i bought 33 micron on accident. will this work for me? i assume since i see people saying 50 is fine, i should be good to go.

What type of plastic is the Aeropress Made from
From the aerobie website: "The clear chamber and plunger are made of copolyester. The hard black filter cap, filter holder, funnel, and stirrer are made of polypropylene. The rubber like seal on the end of the plunger is made of a thermoplastic elastomer."
Any thoughts on the safety of use for qwiso or qwet?

Of course. As I recall, the aeropress is not very expensive. It is essentially a large syringe that has a removable basket on the discharge end. A stainless "brewing" screen is available as an accessory. I place the 50 micron screen last, followed by the stainless aero screen, and then a paper filter (aeropress). This screws onto the bottom of the chamber. After washing for 3 min., I dump the whole mess into the 'press and slowly press the plunger from the top of the chamber all the way down til it almost touches the top of the herb. This extracts all the solvent without squeezing any non-desirables from the plant matter. I do this over top of a pyrex pie plate. After the solvent is pressed out, I unscrew the filters(s) and dump the moist herb back into my large mason jar. Add a splash of Everclear and allow to soak. At some later point, I will pour off the solvent and strain through activated charcoal. This gives me a 2nd wash that really is not suitable for vaping, but will work very well for a tincture. I have been using fresh herb, that is frozen along with the Everclear which lives in the freezer. The stainless 50 micron seems to do a fantastic job leaving all the lipids and waxes behind. I do not use heat to purge until after scraping from the pyrex. Then I will let any residual solvent burp out of the extract as it sits in a no-goo container (in a nice WARM spot) with the lid off. Top notch aroma and clarity, and no worries about "mystery" anything as with bho solvents. I have seen differing views as to Everclear having residual sugars, however, I do not worry about this miniscule potential. This is the only method for me as far as extracting goes. My last batch was between 7-14 grams and it looks to be a good yield. I will let you know the return once it comes "off the plate". So far there is no indication that the ethanol is affecting the integrity of the aeropress. No hazing or discoloration, anyway the solvent is only briefly in contact with the 'press .

Fuck Butane.

i am pretty sure there are absolutely ZERO sugars or anything in EC after distillation. its alcohol and water... thats it.

i too only use EC to extract, but i would suggest skipping the paper filter. with these screens there is just no need for it.

thanks for the reply!

EDIT*** just got home to fnd some 10micron mesh in my mail. i will be doing a run likely sunday or monday and will post back with thoughts. of which expect to be 5 stars.

i think the 10micron will really shine when polishing up 2nd runs and reclaim. im hoping at least.

Got my screens and clamp (ordered wrong size went to autozone to get similar one).
I got a 20u, 25u and a 50u and they sent me a bonus freebie 60u. Now I wonder where to begin. Anyone have any luck with these running BHO.:science::freak:
Thanks 316T Stainless for the freebie!

Sorry for double post but I had to share! Please merge.
:o :tup: Ok here's my update. Using my normal set up and I added the 25u screen on top of my existing screens. It is amazing how much was getting through my old set-up. This is the clearest I have been able to achieve. First picture is the first run. Second picture is second run after powder fine re-grind. Second run got a few flecks of veg from airflow. But still clear despite fine grind. Total yield 4.2 from 21.

Was browsing this guy's eBay store today, googled his store name and this thread came up! I was looking for info on the extraction tubes he sells...anyone have opinions on them? I am definitely going for the screens, but am now contemplating just picking up one of his starter kits instead of his screens + glass tube somewhere else. This would be for my first attempt at running BHO. I wonder how those tubes compare to glass? Dirt cheap at $5 a 7g capacity tube!!

So, on a one oz glass tube (probably 2" OD)
Will I want 3, 4, 5 or 6" mesh screens?
(And yes, I plan on securing with the thumb screw drive clamps for sale there.)
(Um, no, no plastic here!)

Also, with SS screens, does that do away with the need to pack the top of the tube with a filter paper?

(No need to use paper filters in any way with these screens.)

I wish there was another way beside paypal to pay them.
(Their fees piss me off.)

Or it would be even better if someone in the Denver area carried these, I'd really like to give them a try in the hopes of finding a long term solution to screening the blast/spray.
(If nothing else I love these thumb-screw clamps!)

Oh nevermind. Paypal links with ebay (which is linked to my checking)
ordered, no fees.
Should have them (screens & clamps) in 5 days, or less.

@Sidereally, you can get SS mesh of all mesh counts all over the place. check out www.mcmastercarr.com and look for Ss mesh. you can get just about every mesh in any size you can think of. just make sure its 316SS and you are good.

that is only if you couldnt order from the 316Twholesale site. i want to add that i would recommend ordering thru 316T because the owner is a super cool guy and the service is fantastic.

there are other options tho.

i have a mesh count to micron conversion chart on my comp at home. i will post it up later. or you could just google "mesh to micron chart" and you will find one. pretty handy chart for concentrate artists!

I received my screens and clamps from 316Twholesale today.
Excellent vendor, excellent shipping, and definitely a cool dude (he threw in a handful of extra clamps!)

Also, on an unrelated note, a (commercial) blaster friend came over last night and dropped off a QP '710 Tech' tube, so I might not be needing the screens and clamps for a minute. (LOL)

(So to be clear, that was two days from order sent to order received, EXCELLENT shipping!)

i would like to add that i used my 10 micron screens last night for the first time and i love them.

my Qwet runs get filtered as follows: first filtration is with a standard ss mesh ( i dont know the size or micron) that basically separates the flowers from the ethanol. second is the 50 micron screen of which removes most of the leftover plant matter and small particles. third is the 25 of which removes yet even smaller particles. and finally the 10 micron mesh removes just about anything that is left that has not dissolved.

using this method is more time consuming than the two filtrations i used to use, but the results have never been better and tastier!

fuck paper! SS mesh for the win.

Hey guys, I have been making Qwet for a while now. I use the brown paper coffee filters inside of a stainless mesh bowl. I am always looking to improve and these screens seem to be the key!
My question is, can someone explain (or better yet show a photo) of how you filter your EC mixture? I just can't picture how it's done. Are these screens stiff? I'm going to find a photo of my setup and add to this post in a little while.

EDIT: OK, here is a pic of how I do it.

This would be the first drain, obviously. Here is the second:

So, my question is, would I just substitute the SS screens where the tripled-up paper filters go or would this not work? Are the screens pliable so they would fit like this or is there a better way?

Thanks! I'm dying to find out more about this and get moving with my own shatter runs. A lot of what I produce now comes out a bit gooey. It's nice stuff, but I want to up my game without resorting to BHO purges.

I used the "20 micron Artisan" screen to filter a batch of reclaim that was diluted in ISO. And the results were very good. Kind of a dark redish but nice and clear. This screen is quite stiff but I was able to press it into a stainless kitchen strainer and it sort of locked itself in place. Pretty slow going with 20 micron. I can imagine slower with the 10 micron.

Just ordered some 10 micron and 60 mesh (250 micron) screens from 316tWholesale. Going to use the 10u in the bottom of an AeroPress to filter some QWET. Plan to use the 60 mesh (250 micron) as my initial separation of bud/ethanol, as well as the cover over my evaporation dish to keep out particulate matter.

Looking forward to trying out the 10u filters, that's a tight weave!

what micron should i buy for use in my AeroPress?
Do i want / need to re-filter to get the best purity?
what about stacking filters?

what about cutting it round to fit, i'm going to fuck up more than one.

not sure about BHO, but i use 50, 25, and 10 micron to filter QWET with.

that is what i went with. and they sent me a free pack of 20 micron.
so far i used a 50 20 10, to winterize and it worked so much better than the coffee filters i had been using.

i stacked the 50 and 20 in the Aeropress and it poured through most of the way before i even put the plunger on. then i set up the 10 micron and poured through that.
