Well I will be watching the Olympics because I love the Winter Olympics especially all things snow-boarding. FUCK POLITICS, this is about sports and athleticism. So for those of you who love sports and the Winter Olympics are something special, this thread's for you. Sayonara.

also quit watching (any olympics) years ago, then i started watching again (kids got into it). i dont get too involved in the patriotic aspect of it as though its a war, instead just admire seeing top athletes perform from wherever they are from, i'll root for whomever is competing...its a hell of a trip they take.

looking forward to speed skating, curling and alpine skiing.

Well I just use my remote control like I do for a whole bunch of programs and especially to defend my eyes and ears from Mr. My Pillow...yikes!

Well I'm watching the women's BIATHON right now and I'm rooting for #23 of Germany, yes I'm rooting for the USA but they will have a hard time beating those European countries. I'm also liking curling because it's like shooting billiards or pool with the geometry and physics. Unfortunately the USA Co-Ed team got whacked by the Koreans. Sayonara.

It's kinda ruining the mountain events like the ski jumping and snowboarding at the moment :(

Loving the relationship dynamics in the curling tho :lol: watching the way the married/dating couples shout at their partners way harder than the teammates that aren't married/dating :rofl:

Well I was born in the USA and I'm half-German(Dad's side), one-quarter English and one-quarter Irish(Mom's side) so while I always root for the USA I also root for Germany, England, and Ireland when it comes to world-wide competitions like the Olympics. The USA does much better in the Summer Olympics than they do in the Winter Games and that's a fact, however the USA is very strong in skating events, hockey and snowboarding. However when it comes to ski-jumping, curling, cross-country skiing, and biathon the USA...er not so much. So while happy for the USA winning some Golds in snowboarding, I was certainly happy to see a German woman win the biathon. Finally I agree the winds were very bad in that snowboarding event causing the event to be just two runs instead of three. I think they should have postponed for a day but hey money talks and time is money so that's that. Sayonara.

My interests are primarily downhill, GS, short track skating, and snowboard cross. I admire the biathlon skiers immensely, but their races aren't terribly exciting to watch. Vegging out to curling is OK, though I miss the old corn brooms. In my perfect world, all judged events would be tossed out of the Olympics. If the winner can't be determined quantitatively, it isn't sporting to me. If I want a judged competition, I'll watch DWTS .

Well another GOLD MEDAL for the USA as CHLOE KIM wins WOMEN's "HALF-PIPE". She's a California girl and I think her parents are Korean, anyway she's only 17 years old, a real knock-out beauty and on top of the world. WTG!!!

i can certainly understand that take on it and feel that way at times (bad calls by judge), but also can see the judged events at being a more diverse and dynamic "sport" since the event goes beyond getting an object into a goal or racing a clock. no doubt judges have quite the task of being fair about the rules of a sport while calculating skill and talent into a specific number value however i think those events create some of the most unique expressions of determination and passion and the olympics would be lacking without this individual athletic display.

im really wanting to invest in some VR gear.

Yeah, what he said, and well stated I might add. Yes the judges can really suck sometimes but most of the time they get it right. I'm so happy to have seen the gold medal performances of Kim and the young USA dude(can't remember name right now) and then there is women's freestyle skating an event I have watched since I was a kid, watching with my mom. When I watch these events I never want anyone to fall down no matter the country however I still hope for a USA or GERMANY victory.

That is awesome. I watched all those events you mentioned.

I really like watching the Olympics after a good vape session. I was zoning the other day on curling. It was mesmerizing and :chill: all at the same time.

Tonight I was hooked on men's downhill, and how close they always come to completely busting their ass in half.

Well I been watching a bunch of the Olympics and tonight watching Germany win Gold in pairs and beating the favored team from China. Heck the German women was in her fifth Olympics but never a Gold until tonight WTG! Big congrats to Sean and Kim for their Golds last night.

Oh, I do. For me, it's all about witnessing athletes triumph over tragedy like Shaun White or watching Chole, a 17 year old kid fulfilling her dream since she was 4 years old or watching Mirai triumph over not being picked for the team 4 years ago or watching Savchenko and Massot going from 4th place to winning the Gold or watching that North Korean ice dancing team do things that I never new they did in North Korea.

For me, it's all about watching athletes push the envelope beyond what many of us think is even possible and politics never enters into my mind. For me, watching the Olympics is actually a respite from all the political bullshit that I see in the news. It's about athletes coming together to compete, leaving their politics at home. Just watching how they interact and congratulate one another gives me a glimmer of hope in this fucked up world we live in.

That's why I watch the Olympics.

Well I think you have stated quite well what the Olympics are all about. There really is so much crap in the world and the Olympics are a nice reprieve from the Political Bullshit of the World. The Olympics sure aren't perfect and some of the commentators can be a bit much, but all in all it's whole lot of fun to watch. Seeing the reactions of Sean and Kim and so many others when they win...PRICELESS.

No kidding. Did you see the extended clip when Shaun was all in tears hugging his Mom and sister after he won the gold and then when he saw his Dad? He was not holding those sobs back at all. Got me a bit misty.

And when Mikaela Shiffrin just dropped to her knees, crying after she won Gold. You'd think she'd be used this by now. And then the hugs that she got from those she beat.

It's this human, emotional experience that always has me coming back for more. It really makes politics seem so trivial.
