Does your wall circuit share a load with anything else? Your current might be fluctuating like mine does when we turn on the window AC. I leave mine running 24/7 for over a month now and don't' get any combustion. The wattage meter will jump between 32-37watts at any given time through the day...

the stem size will be the same with both the 14 and 18mm on the sub, the teflon piece that connects to the glass will be different sized. On the glass though, I'm not sure if it makes a huge difference with airflow, or not. Personally, I like the 14mm because I can set it into my 14/18 reducer...

that all really depends on how hot you run your sub, if your ABV has some gold/green color to it, then it is more likely to have actives left in it, than if it was almost black, so I think that is one factor. I keep my ABV and make butter with it, it is a med brown with some variation of light...
