That's great news!
I also had a sapphire insert trapped inside a 30mm bucket that was locked with a Hurricane Cap.
Not amusing.
I tried torching the bucket and cooling the cap (didnt' work).
Ended up putting the bucket in a well padded bench vise and used some ViseGrips to unstick the Hurricane...
I have a couple of 6mm ruby spheres from Cryptic Culture.
They are too big to fit in the Halo; 5mm would probably fit.
Regarding the spheres In general I highly recommend them.
Using the two noted spheres in conjunction with the Liger V3 + sapphire insert I am down from 590* to 530* with...
@Shooby, in addition to the above mentioned question:
Can you notice the difference between a Liger + insert with a Ti airpath vs. a Quartz banger + insert?
(Now that I think about my question a bit more I think you already mentioned that the Quartz+insert is smoother).
:peace:
So they are only concerned with thermal shock from rapid (ish) cooling, not heating?
They designed these inserts to torch didn't they?
Torching is more thermal shock than I am willing to expose my CCA sapphire inserts to.
Yeah, I don't do .25g dabs either.
What do you think you are going to...
I've had a couple of runaway heater issues (in the distant past).
It only happened to me when I left the coil on for days at a time; supposedly the SD card ended up storing too much information.(?)
@HexNailAva counseled me to turn off the unit occasionally.
I now turn it off daily and have not...
Easiest and most gentle method for cleaning sapphire (or any insert really) is soaking it in room temp distilled water for a few minutes and then scrubbing it with a q-tip.
Will normally strip off the gunk quite easily.
Ah, nice to see Deep Six #1 again.
I hope she's treating you well.
Still haven't seen anyone but FluidMotionGlassworks doing that kind of split downstem/perc combo.
I rarely use my Halos for in home use but I broke one to test with the ruby spheres.
6mm is too big to fit. :(
5mm probably would.
If they fit I think that they would make a huge difference in performance as the DNail carb cap with the offset angled air intake would make the spheres orbit...
Why didn't your friend like the spheres?
I've also noticed a reduction in the number of dabs I take, consumption seems to be about the same though.
After all the cost invested in a dab set-up already the $20-$25 / ruby sphere really seems (to me) like a rather modest cost; probably more like...
I can't detect any taste from the Ti airpath, but I have not tried an all quartz airpath for comparisons sake.
My thoughts are that the insert material is going to have the greatest impact on taste; I would go for sapphire.
But you could torch the Gavel, the Liger not so much.
Regarding dabbing...
Update on the performance of the ruby spheres:
I'm using a 30mm Liger with a sapphire insert and two ruby inserts (+ an AugustHaus Liger coil).
Prior to the introduction of the ruby spheres I was happy running @590*.
With two spheres I am down to 530*!!!
With better taste, bigger clouds, and...
I haven't gotten my hands on a Liger Air yet (nor seen pictures).
Excited though.
Wow, that's a low coil temp.
I don't have a K-type thermometer but @ 550* coil temp my Hex-Nail's calculated nail temp is 396*.
By the way 550* (30mm Liger/sapphire/2 ruby spheres/Coojo cap) is heavenly … 540*...
Excellent.
I was an avowed user of the 20mm for a long time … until I got the AH coil and larger shroud.
I use the 20mm on occasion now, but the 30mm + sapphire insert + AH coil + Coojo Cap has been my daily driver for quite some time now.
Thought I was pretty much at the top of my...
I recently picked up a couple of 6mm ruby spheres from Cryptic Culture and have been taking them for a spin in my Ligers.
They definitely vaporize your concentrates more quickly and efficiently.
Using a 30mm sapphire insert I'm down in temp from 590* w/o spheres to 570* with two spheres.
Could...
