I am not sure if the metal inside gets hot and expands and cracks the wood. Or, if the heat alone is cracking it. Or, if the wood shrinks and cracks. Either way perhaps a small buffer of heat resistant foam or tape between the metal and the wood would provide...

Get really really stoned and take some wet/dry emery cloth (wet) and go round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round.... a bunch of times. In a year or so, it will be 19/19.

@fbustion you might want to try a Vaponic. Very similar in method but everything is glass. Once you own an original, you'll see how easy it is to make replacements (they are glass and they do break) for only a few pennies. There is a thread somewhere here about making your own.

I had one like that too. That is adjustable with the pot (variable resistor) next to the proximity chip. I adjusted one already and it made 100% difference. If you need more detailed instructions, feel free to ask.
