I never noticed a distracting smell from my cocobolo but just go buy some Burt's Bee Wax lipbalm in your favourite smell and bingo problem solved. Conditions the wood and using some on the o-rings puts it inside the unit a bit so hopefully the combo reduces the smell for you. I have a walnut...
