Gladly! While I've not tried solely hot water, I don't see why it wouldn't have the same effect as hot coffee. Otherwise, the process you mention should work out well to clean the piece.

If inclined towards "stem coffee", simply perform this procedure into very hot coffee prior to repeating the process in your cleaner of choice.
