What I do is, of course, a proper dry and cure. Bone dry, but not crumbly. Put in glass mason/canning jar, after boiling the jar to sterilize it. I use the ones about the size of a coke can (a little fatter). They hold about an oz. Not too tightly packed, but doesn't leave a lot of air in there...
