This is not cool, I've had this fear sense back in like 9th grade! Those basterds better leave my medicine alone... Oh well off to start the worlds best Cannabis seedbank.
I called 1-800-336-7224 you'll want ext 601 which is customer service, Their hours are 9:30 to 5 pst if i remember correctly. I had too call about 5 times before someone answered.
Mine shows light on the clasp side, just slightly, but the seal in the middle doesn't let any light thru, can you see light all the way across or just near the clasp?
I really wish i could just take my Ascent apart and figure out WTF is going on in there, but i can't because then my warranty would be no-more, and i'm most likely trying to return this thing
Ok I've visually inspected the grill area for the past 20 mins. Finding number one is that there was a small dab of what appears to be hot glue on the black part under the grill, right next to the non-charger hole. I'll post pics of where it was, i managed to wipe it off with a toothpick, I have...

Supposedly it's a battery that can hold 10x the power of a same sized lithium ion battery.
@Skulduggery Im not going to use, If i were to hold a unit in my hand that didn't smoke at all i would love to use it. I don't want to inhale anything other then the precious vapor we all crave! I litteraly had a friend begging me to use it today. and i was like "no fuck off, are you fucking...
I read everywhere i could! In the bowl was the hottest and the outside and grill were about half the temp of the bowl
Edit: batt meeter was at 50% then i shut it off and powered back on and now it shows 75%, hmmhhh, Edit: and now its back to 50%
Grill max temp at 93c
Body max about 70c
So I busted out the infrared thermometer, i didn't get any readings above 220c. I also think that the off-gassing starts at about 190-195c from what seen.
I took mine out side during one of my burnoffs and blew a lot of air thru it with an air compressor, in the end it still smoked or offgassed and was visible.
EDIT: I wish I could love my Ascent! Its such a cool device. If it didn't have these issues i would be thrilled!
one more thought, i looked inside the grill with a flashlight, and i can see the wires that provide power to the heater. they appear to be the same type used in the solo(wire with silicone sheath). I believe that the "new vape smell" may be the wires "stripping" themselves when the part closest...
Here's an article on off gassing silicone https://imageserv5.team-logic.com/mediaLibrary/99/Outgassing_20of_20Silicone_20Elastomers.pdf
Edit: it seems that offgassing is usually caused by poor curing of the rubber compound
"Insufficient or poor post cure can result in a reduction in strength...
@nigel try holding the flashlight up to the bowl on the ascent, with the bowl open and upside down. so the only light escaping should be thru the hole on the bottom of the grill, the narrow beam of light illuminates the vapor coming out well.
Ok i've tried a bowl yesterday, then cleaned it real well with iso, so there shouldn't be anything in there that is gassing. I took a tooth pick and gently poked the black silicone part under the grill, i did this too see if it was hard or soft. soft meaning it's silicone. I have a hunch that...
There is some offgasing, you should take it to a dark room with a flashlight, at first i couldn't see any in the light but.....
Edit: I also left it on the charger all night and never got a "full" battery logo, showed it was sill charging
