'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Hi Bloke  You certainly have been making creative use of your time. With that modular arrangement you've got just about all the heater cover types covered, plus the DV, and it caters for people who might want bigger or smaller load sizes. Keep up the good work. Those Mistys look great...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

This is probably the most interesting piece from my recent output. Local oak taken from a fallen branch. It had been down for a while - not so long as to rot but long enough to become insect real estate. I think they're a wood-boring solitary wasp. Anyway, I kept a bit of the side...

    Log vape history

Yes, that's correct. His name's Nick and sadly he became quite ill. Don't know how he's doing now but I wish him the best. He made some really beautiful logs. Seperate issue: this cropped up a while ago and might be worth adding here.

    Underdog Log Vapes

Bagged me a couple of real beauties from that refresh - two young pups to keep the old Dog company. The Chico Claro Walnut is now well over six years old but still works fine and still looks lovely but, y’know .. VAS  . The big one on the right is a Streaked Hackberry Alpha and the...

    Underdog Log Vapes

Just been over to the website to check out the major refresh ..... and that is really some lovely work you've put up there. I'll have one of each please:D But seriously, the sheer variety of wood types, body designs and output options is very impressive. I might just go for one of those exotic...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Exactly what Dave says - @HighVapeEnthusiast and the heater covers shows you've got good metalwork skills too. Don't worry too much about appearance with your first few logs (though these are pretty good, anyway). Properly functional units are the first and most important step. Making them...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

That's some very interesting work there @HighVapeEnthusiast. You're clearly skilled on the lathe. A walkthrough on that top picture with the J hook would be great. And the heater cover on the lower two - tapered Ti - did you make it yourself? How is it fixed to the baseplate? Also, the 50w...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

@HighVapeEnthusiast Looking forward to seeing you work ttps://fuckcombustion.com/threads/image-attachments.50036/ and your english is fine. Looks excellent @sweepsLoy  I see the debris screen right at the top of the heater cover - so does the draw stem go over (rather than into) the...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Hi AV - many thanks. The bulbs come from an AliExpress vendor and don't appear to have a brand. I used Milbloon but a more diligent search shows up significantly cheaper sellers. As you say, the visible light they put out is definitely more user-friendly than the standard halo bulb. That...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

As I said earlier how 'IR' the bulbs actually are is uncertain. Pure infrared is beyond the visible spectrum - so it's clearly not pure. Certainly, if the glass is red then that will restrict other wavelengths but damping down the visible ones is actually quite useful in this application...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Thanks @Bad Dog . I've used the same 'side branch for jack connector' idea on Rustics made from silver birch and European walnut. It certainly gives the log a distinctive appearance. Initially I tried to keep the other side branch - the one on the back, but it gave the unit an awkward shape...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

The idea of using infrared halogen bulbs in vape construction has been discussed previously by KeroZen. I also thought it worth checking out and recently managed to source 10w G4 infrared bulbs from a Chinese site. They arrived a couple of weeks ago. I ran some tests that showed that they're...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Hi Summer Well, halogen units provide more than enough heat for roasting herb and concentrates. Indeed, like some cartridges and resistors, they need taming with a VVPS to avoid combusting the material. Halogen heat-up times are less than half those for cartridge/resistor units. And, for me...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

A friend of mine recently came up with some fully seasoned Magnolia. There was only enough of sufficient diameter for two blanks but with some thinner pieces useful for stems/WPAs. Here's the section I chose for this log. The diagonal stripe persisted under the bark and adds much to the...
