After I finish a bullet, I use the included brush for the inside of the unit and then blow out any excess avb. I've had mine for a few months now and mine still seems pretty clean. I also get smell at start-up, but it's from the herb itself, not the chamber.

It's really up to you. The Pinnacle is $100 cheaper than the Ascent, but it does have it's downsides. If you're into picking exactly what temperature you want, then go with the Ascent because you can only pick 370 F or 390 F with the Pinnacle. That doesn't mean you don't get full extraction...
