Here's my set-up. I put a piece of cotton at the tip of stem to (sort of) filter the oil leaving the stem. You can see it builds up pretty heavily. Then, when it gets hard to pull, or clogged, I pull out the cotton. In the picture I pulled out the cotton a bit so you can see. I haven't seen...

I wouldn't depend on batteries to give you more heat, it sounds risky. I actually had a stock MFLB battery nearly explode (it hisses and expanded and leaked fluid). You should get the PA if you would like to control the heat. When I first got my PA it was set so high it basically combusted...
