I am sorry to hear about the crack in the cross turned maple Rick. I know how much work when in to making it. Cracks are always painful. I have had better luck turning in that orientation with the wood being extremely dry (microwave oven or food dehydrator). It will have shrunk to its smallest...
Thanks for your interest. I do still make the original shape, but it will only work with my original power supplies. The new unit is 3/8" taller (10%) to accept a right angle adapter which allows the variable voltage power supply which has a straight end plug. I'm still looking for an extension...
The Turbo Tube will fit into a standard 14mm gong. That is what I used in the video with my glass MIO tube. The silicone makes a nice seal into the glass joint.
That is a good one Vapinghole. Thanks. I love all the puns you can make with it.
You are certainly welcome. Hope I don't make you wait too long for the HI.
Back to the shop now.
Thanks for the kind words Rick. Taking a chance on something new can sometimes pay off very well. Look how doing something new has worked out well for you. Always good to keep an open mind.
I started turning tops with the grain oriented 90 degrees to improve the balance. It is essentially a...
Nice video bOObs. I can imagine hash does work very well in the glass nipples. Will have to try it sometime. Videos like that make the waiting even harder.
To answer GratefulVapor's question. I am taking new orders, but it will be when I get to the name on the list. It may seem like I have...
Thanks for the update / review u bwade wunner. I'm finding that the dryness and size of grind have a big affect on the air flow. Sometimes I need to stir between draws to maintain good air flow and other times I don't. Finding the right combination is part of the fun. There is a trade off...
mestizo - That battery should work fine for you. The weight isn't that big of a deal in a backpack. I'm interested to see how long it will power the HI. Hope the blood wood unit is working well.
I should have know that ilovebOObs would really enjoy a glass nipple. ;) Great job on the tubes...
I made my power cable for my battery. It is some speaker wire that I attached a plug to one end. The wires on the other end just connect to the battery clips. You can make the power cable about as long as you need.
Love the ultimate turbo tube / baby cloud ilovebOObs. Great thinking. So much...
Sorry to hear you broke one of the new tips already ilovebOObs. Good thing you have a spare. Hope you are having luck with your new glass roasting chamber.
Thanks for the idea FORE567. There are so many ways you can use the HI.
If you like a whip, you will like another one of my creations. I...
Will give you as shout when I get one made.
So some of you may be wondering why I don't just take two of my new glass roasting tips and put them together with a silicone sleeve and a screen in between? That way it is a shortie glass double tipped turbo tube that will fit in a 14mm gong and...
Here are some photos of the black walnut toasty top that just found its way down under.
The end grain sides are almost black it is so dark and the side grain sides are brilliant in bright light. It also demonstrates very well how heat follows the grain in wood. It has been turned for a while now...
Thanks OhTheAgony, mom, and beers. I love how the black walnut shines in the sunlight. I would love to have a HI or TT made from petrified wood. It would take a bit of work grinding and polishing the rock. The big challenge I would have with using a hemp stock is threading in the heating...
Nothing wrong with thinking of new ideas or materials. I do it all the time. They don't always work out. Sometimes they do. Never dreamed it would work to solder a heating element directly to the power socket, but tried it anyhow.
Maybe I should try a corn cob or stalk for a HI. That might be...
Briefly, but the idea of roasting bone or ivory was not very appealing. It may also be too conductive. Would definitely be brittle. Wood just seems to work so well. Maybe I can find a hemp stalk big enough for a HI. It would have to be a big plant. Still need to try a bamboo pole. I guess...
Glad to hear they arrived safely psyshaman. They are some very special units. The black walnut Toasty Top was turned with the grain 90 degrees from normal. It makes two sides very dark and two sides very reflective of light. The dark sides get hot and the light sides just warm. It has the new...
Thanks Ed. Quite a selection of fine wood you have there. That is a tough decision. A lighter wood will tend to have a lower thermal conductivity and should make it cooler to the touch. The wood must be at least hard enough to hold threads for the power socket / heating element. That is the only...
Love the tube holder ilovebOObs. It holds plenty of tubes. I have also been using plastic pizza box supports turned upside down and fastened to something heavy so they won't fall over. I can see why you are enjoying the all glass turbo tubes. That is quite a collection of glass. I need to send...
Sorry to hear about the power socket Orestes. The blue mahoe wood is very soft and does not hold threads well in that grain orientation as I found. Some very thin paper wrapped around the threads should give it a nice tight fit again. I thought about building up the threads on the wood, but...
Thanks placetime. It was fun to find a piece of wood like that. Yew never know what you will find.
I know that problem ilovebOObs. I have it myself. haha
Great new video. I can see why you don't want to put it down. Very nice setup.
Vapinghole - The waiting is even tougher with videos like...
