Vaping through warm water is pleasant but can have negative side effects like fungal and bacterial infections. Happened to me and doc suggested I vape with room temperature or colder water to avoid infection.

If the shaft slipped below the legs and you ripped it, you vaped any debris on the surface. That could explain why it's off gassing.
