I’ve just about given up on my Alternate. After RMA-ing several of them, I’ve decided it’s just not suitable for a daily driver and that only gets worse if you try to do anything remotely athletic with it.
The last one they sent me I only use once a week, and never above 375°F. Great hitter...
So I've ventured into the world of 510 cartridges and batteries. Total game changer for me.
I've been using a version of the iMini called Mist by Kind Pen. "Lifetime Warranty"

The carts I have are Kingpen .5 and 1's. I find that I'm usually...
I agree, it doesn't affect performance with the crack over the battery, for now. Interestingly enough Vivant has offered to repair my current Alternate this time. Perhaps @Vivant can share some details as to why these keep cracking over the battery, and what the repair will change so this...
I think that's getting a little too off topic for this thread, but rest assured many state and local governments are looking at this.
That being said, I just noticed a crack on the new Alternate I just got on January 17th. Not even a month this time!
That's where the internet is critical. It's the fastest way to share information ever created. I'm not trying to get political, but governments are itching to regulate vapes. The outcome of that can't be good for us.
Mine is the v3. I don't think you can do this on the previous versions. It's pretty easy to pop out. I'd clean and replace them all the time. I use an old "hook tool" from dugout I used to use and use the hook end into the slot and twisted it until it popped out. I bet a crafty cleaning...
Extra cool that these bucket screens fit right into the "ground herb" section of the included grinder/loader, making a nifty way to pre-load & store my dosing capsules, and load the main chamber.:science:
This works great. I picked up a 5 pack of these bucket screens at the local pipe store. Twice the load capacity instantly if you fill both sides.
I think you just invented dosing capsules for the Alternate.
I have already RMA’d one Alternate for the top cracks. After a while, it will start to affect the airflow thru the unit.
Can anyone post pics of a disassembled v3top cap?
I'm so overdue for a canna-break, but it's biking season, and I have not one, but two new bikes to ride the shit out of before winter.
Of course when winter comes, I'll be vaping every ski day, so that's not looking good either.
Most of the time, I ride my bike. I'll ride 3-5 miles, vape a bowl, ride another 3-5 miles, vape another...
Skiing high is my absolute favorite. Vaping on a chairlift is like flying through the air on a magic chair.
I'm having the same "problem" with my Vivant Alternate. One of the best portables I've had. The good news is it's getting me out on my bike more often.
I'm purely a recreational user. I try not to vape in the house. Most of my vaping happens around me being out doing things. Skiing in the winter, and biking the rest of the year. Portable vapes are great for people who vape and do sports at the same time.
