Have been doing some more tube research lately using stacked screens (my new favorite way to roast). They work really well in the Slide-a-Bowl tubes which allows the sliding tube to be used for a fiber filter if desired. Here is a photo showing the Slide-a-Bowl tube in silicone, wood, and cork...
Here are a few more Mini HI units I recently finished that are very colorful. The first is a box elder and red heart. The second is purple heart. The third is sumac and highly figured walnut. The purple heart (3.25" tall) has a ss heater cover and the others have glass heater covers.

Good to see you back hazy. Looking forward to seeing more Hot Pods. I was having the same issues with the power socket melting the end of the plug with my first HI design. I even modified an extension cord to use a glass bead for the insulating material but it wasn't worth the effort. I found...
@ZC - Thanks. The heater glows orange during operation. I tried to make it as simple as possible. There are no splices to the wires. They are either soldered directly to the dimmer switch circuit board or the 2-prong (PS2/PS3 style) power socket. The GTV runs so cool, that it is tough to tell if...
Here are some photos of how I have been using the stacked screens. The first photo is the 13mm glass roasting tube version. The shorter tube is used to hold the two screens and the longer tube can be used to hold a fiber filter. Either a full size or a half cork can be used to connect them...
@Nugg - Thanks for posting the photos. Looking very good.
The heating element assembly for the glass heater cover won't fit inside of the stainless steel heater cover, and the heating element assembly for the stainless steel heater cover allows too much radiant heat to escape making the wood...
I have a request for 3D printed silicone Keck / glass clip. I would like it to snap all the way around onto the lip of female fitting and allow the male fitting to slide through until the silicone snaps around it holding it firmly in place. Should be so much easier to use than a metal or plastic...
@NickDlow - Will be happy to make you one with a granite bottom. I have several colors of the solid surface counter top material from which to choose. Will find something that looks good together with the wood.
@JJ420 - I know what you mean about the glass/hybrid heater cover. Made a mini with...
Thanks for posting the photo. Glad you are enjoying the TT. Some very interesting roasting tube styles.
The old style core does work better for a hand warmer than the newer style heater covers since it has more mass. You should really enjoy the newest style of heater cover.
@Hot Dog Day 187 - I know what you mean about the basket/shaped screens. I use a small poly storage tube with some iso in it to soak the screens when they get dirty. I torch the screen to remove all the iso residue and then pick it clean with a sewing needle set into the end of a bamboo skewer...
@Likes2vape - Glad you like the work. It is fun creating it. I love how the natural lines in the wood worked out for the Master Shake hands.
@virtualpurple - The Master Shake was fun to make. So many different shapes are possible.
@lemmeadem - Thanks for the kind words. It is fun to bring joy...
All of the roasting tubes that I make for the HI and TT also work for the newer underdog units. Send me an email to alan@toasty-top.com and we can discuss the details.
Have started pushing the shaped screen in the 18mm male fitting out beyond the end of the glass. This does several things. It moves the screen closer to the heat source. It increased the screen surface area to improve airflow. The flat part of the screen stays very clean as material cannot build...
@Shit Snacks - I do have a need to create things. Glad everyone gets to enjoy them.
@little maggie - Will be sure to get a few more of the micro vvps units made.
@OnlyHuman - Thanks for posting the photos. Glad you are enjoying it.
I normally make the Heat Island as small in diameter as...
I have wanted to see how small a VVPS can be made for a while now and recently found some buck/boost variable voltage boards w/ a built in digital display. The electrical connections to the board can be made without soldering. The simplest / cheapest application for log style vaporizers is to...
Was thinking about how to connect my MFLB to a 14mm fitting in the shortest possible way the other day and here is what I made. A WonG adapter made from osage orange wood. The connector tube is 1/4" thin wall stainless steel which provides very good air flow. I use the same ss connector tube...
