The resistor goes back on the power connector, it supplies and reduces voltage to the lamp, which may have popped making the pop you heard? But it only affects the light, not the heater as those look to be connected.

I doubt that it’s ‘done,’ a wire probably got disconnected or broke when the socket broke. If the light is not on it means there’s no power to the heater. I once replaced mine - its an inexpensive C8 panel mount socket that needed a ridge dremeled/filed off, if I remember right. I bought a bag...

I think you may be overthinking this. I assume you want NO (normally open), so use the white & red wires. If in doubt check it with a multimeter. Connect the white wire to the positive power input and the red wire to the load, so when the switch is pressed it will supply power to the heater...
