I looked at mine, I have an OG and updated version and both appear to be bare metal same as the sides of the heater. Yours looks to have a coating of some sort. This is weird and not good, I wouldn’t use it and ask for a replacement. mine

I have similiar stems and wpa with these mods, the improvement of airflow is slight, barely noticeably. you worry too much about the intake air, the Solo2 and airMax are both safe.:2c:
