with the normal Enano the heat up time as well as heat retention vary depending on the room temperature... might be the same with the XL?

4 out of 4 I have purchased (for me and friends) in less than a year have had it. It goes away within week or so. Not something that seems to go away just because pf using the device. One of these I purchased I never used, just left outside the box for a bit over 2 weeks and the smell went away.

You should keep the spare battery charged to at least 50% if your are going to store it... or something like that, but def don't store it without any charge at all.
