I used a bit of 14 AWG solid copper wire wrapped around the cord and then wrapped that with some electrical tape to help with strain relief of the cord. It works very well.

The mesh inside the pad that retains heat and spreads it out so evenly is fiberglass mesh. When you cut the pad, that fiberglass mesh can fray and particulate.

Don't cut the pads. They have fiberglass mesh inside. Cutting the pad can fray the fiberglass and then particles have the ability to migrate into you oil. Not good.

Its not a $ thing, the wife has about 2 dozen Silpats. I figured I'd give one a shot before buying something else.

These pads are the same thing as Silpat nonstick baking sheets, yes?
