A conversation just now with Tafée Wares, revealed the answer, and @Abysmal Vapor as usual, has the right idea. Rather than encasing the coil, there are two separate heaters. A ceramic heater AND the coil... and the ceramic "sandwiches" the coil in two layers. The ceramic heater warms first...

I am guessing that the heater is ceramic, perhaps I will call the company and find out! It has a breath sensor, that shuts the heater if button is held and there is no inhalation going on, and when you let the pressure on the button go, it stops heating as well. The unit's heater does not glow...

That is likely because alcohol, can shatter the acrylic, and it will look like a spiderweb, and eventually fall apart. EDIT: I stand corrected. Recent posts have clarified that diluted alcohol is safe enough , and that "image" was the issue, as explained here:

I had to re-do this video 4 times. I used sound effects that I have used before in dozens of videos. The music they complained about was during the first 8 seconds of the video. This, the 4th version was acceptable to the powers that be.
