With the MB2 you have to select the temp AND press the butter or oil buttons. The manual recommends using 160 (the lowest setting) as the temp for fresh herb and for butter making. It does not specify for oil but since it works so well for butter at 160 I have to assume one would use the same...

If you have the MB2 you do not need to pre-melt the butter. Probably wouldn't hurt to let it sit out a bit to come up to room temperature but I don't think even that is needed.
