The heater cover does get quite hot, especially if you're using beads. I turn mine off when I'm not using it. The SSV and DBV heat up in minutes, so I don't see the point of leaving it on.

I have the Silver Surfer version. Elev8 did a great job with the design. Their ruby balls heater cover and cap is a significant upgrade over my do it yourself version. It helps to have talented designers and glass blowers around.

I agree with you. I bought the fine plate on a whim and I'm using it a lot more than the medium plate, especially with my injector setup.
