The holes lining up was not an issue for me. When it (the donut) is "free" it sticks to your tool :-) when you dab, if you invert the unit to drain oil, the donut can get stuck to the top cap or when removing the cap, it can "jump" out and roll it's oilyness onto anything you don't want oil...
