Monti, You will need to heat the solo up to no.7 to 'burn' off any manufacturing residue, this is normal. Once this is done (I ran mine on no.7 for 3 X 12 minute cycles then recharged) then when the solo is still hot you should be able to push a stem into the opening. It gets easier from then on...
