^ Well put. I generally always load at least a little more than halfway full, and will usually stir/crush just once about half way through. I have also noticed that with the smaller bowls (less than half full), the stir really doesn't make much difference and is not really necessary.

The issue with having to dump little bits of water out is because you don't want the HT to get full enough of water that it comes dripping out the bottom of the HT and down through the actual unit (and it will, with enough water added/ice melted).
