Question for anyone who has experience with the WPA: since there are no magnets, how much friction holds the vapor cap on? Will it fall off immediately if I hold it upside down? Have you ever had it pop off unintentionally with a J-hook?

You can buy the WPA and vapor cap by themselves for $85 without the lighter. You just have to look outside the Kits section.

You can scorch/char it a little if you get the cap absurdly hot. At this point, the plate will be glowing brightly, the stem will become warm, and the vapor will be hot, so even without glass, it's unmistakable what's happening. That's for slight scorching. Severe scorching or outright...

If possible, could you post some more pics of the setup, like a side view etc? This is the j-hook you're using, right?

I'd pay more to avoid cutting down an adapter with a Dremel, using two pieces of glass instead of one, etc. Anyone know of any glass that would fit without modification?

Yeah, the torch lighter on the Lotus website is about as small as a torch lighter gets. It's only a little bigger than a Bic. You should be able to use any gooseneck (angled) torch that can produce a half-inch flame.
