Finally I can use the dynavap while out hiking! The torch never worked well for me outside. Between not being able to see the torch and wind it was a real pita and I combusted often. I gave up on it and resorted to combusting on hikes and while backpacking. Hoping those days are behind me...

So far between full power and PWM I have been enjoying PWM cycling at 75%on 25%off. This seems to give me the most even roast and taste for my liking, and I also like to skirt the edge of combustion. I have an extremely beat up '18 cap.

That makes perfect sense. I just tried a smaller load tamped slightly and noticed it expanded as you said and got closer to the tip, but didn't touch or scorch. Nice.

Why is my load so often black at the front, near the cap, but when I go to dump it I see lighter green material below? Using a 2018 stock M. I'd love to get another click but combustion of the front of the load wold be certain.
